Mojito's menu and impressive review.

by Doogy R » Wed Apr 09, 2008 10:09 pm

I was online searching for Mojito's menu, to no avail. I did however find a very interesting and quite impressive review from a Memphian who was in the Ville to visit his sick father.

Here is the link to the review - http://mantias.blogspot.com/2007/07/spa ... ville.html

By the way, does anyone know where Mojito's menu can be found?

It looks like a little bit ago the menu was requested but never located.

Sometimes you just have to find out for yourself how great a place is...

You can't always rely on a menu posted on the "WEB"....

Ingredients are subject to the Chef's whim sometimes...And more often than not, it will be quite delicious but not what you expected....

I think you should just take a chance and dive right in....

I am by all means going to eat there for lunch today. I just wanted a peek at the menu, but don't really need to see it. I love Havana Rumba, so I already know I will love Mojito's.

Doogy,

I can't help you with an online menu. But here's an interesting tidbit found under TanyaD's posting on 3/29 "Battle of the Bulge: My Stomach v. Mojitos" (great review by the way, Tanya):

Fernando Martinez wrote:Tanya thank you so much for your wonderful review. I'm so happy that you and your friend enjoyed Mojito and had a good time. We are coming out with a new menu that we are really excited about so I hope that you come back and see us again and please say hello. Thanks Fernando.
Thanks to you too Michelle and Jay the guacamole is going to stay in the new menu. Please say hello next time. Fernando.

And for those like Michelle R. and my husband who love the sweet potato fries with smoked honey, no worries there - they are also staying on the menu according to Fernando:
Fernando Martinez wrote:Michelle: Yes the sweet potato fries w/smoked honey stay in the new menu, please say hello when you come next time. Fernando.

So now the task will fall to you, Doogy... Is Mojitos new menu out? What's on it? What did you have? And of course, how was it all? And if you get a to-go menu as you leave, perhaps you can send it to the person who runs the MenusOfLouisville.com webpage, so we all can see the menu. That's not asking too much, is it?

Well, I shopped in St. Matthew's today (ladies, Doogy loves to shop, tehee) and didn't make it to Mojito's. Maybe tomorrow. Anyhow, I enjoyed the perfect Lechon Asado at Havana Rumba. Fall apart marinated and seasoned pork, rice and beans plus plantains. I wanted to stay and take a nap. How unfortunate that I had other obligations.

You know, I can spot everyone else's typos a mile away. However, my own always avoid detection.

Thanks for the heads up, Jackie.

That menu looks accurate compared to what I had on Friday night.

I skipped over some dishes that I knew were excellent to experience more that Mojito has to offer.

An interesting twist on service: Since it is all tapas, the food comes out when it is ready as opposed to being all together or in any particular order. Our calamari came out after my girlfriend's burger, but it all came out as fresh as possible.

Guacamole-Excellent, I will start with this any and every time.
Albondigas (Spanish Meatballs) I didn't cared for the wine sauce. Not bad, but there are many other options I will explore.
Frita Cubana (Burger) -I stole half from my other half. It was well seasoned, well cooked, well topped, and had a beautiful even pink color all the way thru. I would have never ordered it, but I'm glad I got to try.
Calamari- Breading and texture was good. Sweet chili is seemingly synonymous with calamari in this town. Avacado aioli was creamy, but bland.

Other guests at our table had the Tuna de Asia and Chuletta (Lamb Chops). They loved both. We remarked that the Chops were kind of small, but my buddy knew the price, taste, and portion size. He would not be deterred.

Service was good.

I look forward to trying Carnitas Tacos, Chimichurri Flank Steak, Empanadas and much more.

Pulling from the above menu, here is what I've tried so far at Mojitos with my husband and friends. We always order the small plates to share so we haven't tried any sandwiches or the paella yet. I have to say we loved EVERYTHING. I haven't had a bad dish yet. But the favorite - the absolute favorite - is the Gambas al Ajillo. Also known as the Decadent Garlic Shrimp With Sauce You Want To Lap Up.

I've starred all of our very favorites, but we've tried everything below and loved it and would order again.

Ensalada Mediterránea
Trio de Hummus
Guacamole and Chicharritas
Rioja Short Ribs
Pork Carnitas tacos*****
Calamares Fritos
