New Bakery in Hikes Point

by Kimberly W » Fri Apr 04, 2008 3:55 pm

Has anyone been to the new bakery in Hikes Point. I heard there was a new bakery in Hikes Point off of Taylorsville Rd, behind were Baskin-Robbins is. Has anyone tried it yet?

Thanks!

Someone at today's Maido offline - Dan T, I think, or possibly Gary B - said they had been there, and they have bialys!

It's called Small Times Bakery or something like that?

The Bakery is excellent. It has a very wide variety of breads baked daily..

It is run and owned by a young couple one of whom(Amy) is from one of the boroughs of New York.

They are now building and will operate ( as well as personally live above) another new bakery in Norton Commons. It should be operating in the Fall.

The hubby and I stopped in after the gym last night. We got a piece of Tiramisu to split (it was HUGE) and 2 haystacks (also HUGE), and our total came to like $6. The Tiramisu was phenomenal. We haven't tried the haystacks yet (tonight's dessert), but I'm sure they'll be great, as well. They also had several breads and some doughnuts that looked divine (banana split). I'd say it's definitely worth checking out.

They're pretty much the same as no-bake "cookies", which are more like candy, and there are all kinds of different twists. Some have oatmeal, coconut, and nuts in them, some have oatmeal and nuts. They're all covered in candy coating of some sort, although it's usually chocolate. These were made from oatmeal and nuts, mixed with dark chocolate. They were delicious. The hubby and I split one, and it was plenty.

They are making GREAT bagels at the new bakery on Richland Ave, down from Baskin- robbins ice cream.
The chocolate cigar was also fabulous , with lots of other good looking goodies on hand.
Good luck to the Staff & owners !!
Check them out..

SO, bagels too??..................well, are they as good as Dooley s??

I guess they could be since Amy(Owner) is from the Bronx !! She should know....

Visited again yesterday and bought almost $20 worth of stuff....It was a 'car load" and we ll be savoring for a while...

They should hopefully do well as only opened in January and the additional Norton Commons site should be upen in the Fall...

....In my opinion, Louisville is "hungry" for old fashioned bakeries....Only Plehns, Nords, and possibly Heitzman s still survive, to my knowledge, and they are spread pretty thin...

I stopped by there on my way to work this morning to pick up some goodies for my co horts and let me just announce that I am now the MCDaddy of the office kingdom!

I got lots of their mini pies with various kinds like lemon meringue, chocolate cream, pecan, something they call a Pegasus Pie (Derby pie with white chocolate...) etc.

I also got a loaf of bread and some adorable cupcakes that weigh about 2lbs each and are covered in the most decadent chocolate icing... Everything is wonderful... I couldn't believe how rich the chocolate cream pie was and can't even imagine eating a whole slice in one sitting.

They were very friendly too and exicted to hear that they are getting a good buzz online. They also offer free deliver with a $25 min order within a 15 mi radius so my co-workers are already planning an order for next week.

Thanks!

My office is right down the street. We generally order pastries and such for meetings, coffee hours, etc. Last time we ordered pastries from our regular place, they were moldy. Needless to say, we shall not be ordering pastries from there again. Perhaps, we will start ordering from this place, as everything I've had thus far has been excellent.

Stopped by yesterday for some goodies. They were offering tastes of Kringles - chocolate, almond, cheese - and we obliged. Delicious. They are sold by the slice and it is a very generous slice. We took home a slice of cheese and almond kringle, cheese and apple danish, iced sugar cookie, no bake and pretzel bread. Everything we have tried is delicious. My daughter loves the pretzel bread, very tasty like a large soft pretzel with just the right amount of salt.

What a wonderful addition to our bakery options.
