Good bakery for kid's birthday cake?

by Gina-Schmitz » Thu Apr 03, 2008 9:44 pm

Sort-of new to the area, not familar with the local bakeries to say the least. I know places like Sam's, Kroger's and whatnot carry cakes, but what other options do I have?

I am actually looking for a cute My Little Pony Cake for a toddler - but will give up on the idea of a decorated cake if it means I am sacrificing taste as there will be more adults at this party than children.

Thanks!

Plehn's in St. Matthew's is my go to bakery in the Ville. I also like the bakery at Value Market in Highview. They use a cream cheese based frosting as opposed to the oil based one most the supermarkets use.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

You definately have alot of options in this city. I suggest a look at Plehn's Bakery near the corner of Shelbyville and Breckinridge. They've been a long time favorite of mine for traditional goods. But if you want a cake to impress your adult friends, my pick would be Sweet Surrender. Hands down.

Hi Gina,

We could easily do a My Little Pony birthday cake at Sweet Surrender, and you certainly wouldn't be sacrificing taste with us.

Our dessert menu is posted on our webpage here: http://www.sweetsurrenderdessertcafe.com/menu.htm. We can do any of the cakes listed there in a variety of sizes, but request 48 hours notice whenever possible.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

If you use Plehn's, be sure when you make the order to tell them not to use a frozen stock cake, but a fresh one. Makes all the difference in the world. The frozen one's tend to be a bit dry and "tinny" tasting.
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

I enjoy Bussmans on Frankfort-I am getting my daughters Birthday Cake there with her Butterfly and Flower wishes as decorations-usually very yummy cakes and pies!
