Velocity reviews Le Gallo Rosso

by Robin Garr » Wed Apr 02, 2008 2:50 pm

Nice review of Le Gallo Rosso in this week's Velocity, as Lisa Hornung files a fairly substantive-for-Velocity 281 words, getting into a bit of descripton of the dishes she tried. The lack of a liquor license is briefly mentioned, but there's no recap of the sad story of this spot's being nastily outed for quietly running BYO. A generous tip put her a couple of bucks over the "2 for $30" mark, but I'm glad she did it.

This tucked away eatery is definitely worth crowing about

I was unaware of the story about it being "outed" for running BYO. Who did this? When did it happen? Did they get smacked down by ABC?

There was an active thread a few days ago. They got reported by an anonymous do-gooder. I think there's a pretty hefty clue as to the perp's identity, but at this point I'll leave the decision on outing him/her/it to those with more of a stake in the battle.

Hold on, I'll find the other thread and add a link.

Here you go ... find this post:
Le Gallo Russo - Quick Review.
It's Kurt R.'s post and the ensuing gabfest, starting on the second page of replies in a longer topic.

I posted on that thread, but skipped the first part of it, so I didn't know that's what it was about. That's terrible.

Why would someone do that? My folks eat there and love the BYO aspect. They are going to be angry.

Note that I am not speculating about Le Gallo Rosso specifically. But in general, complaints of this type often fall into one of three categories: A neighboring eatery that has a license and wants to undercut competition; a customer who left miffed about something for lord knows what reason, or an angry ex-employee.

I had no idea my thread on this fine restaurant would end up causing trouble. When I posted that topic, I didn't know it was against the rules for the restaurant to allow people to bring their own wines in.

(If anyone is thinking it was me who turned them in, look another direction -- I'm not *that* much an a***ole)
