Tumbleweed on the river open, going strong

by Mark R. » Mon Mar 31, 2008 8:17 pm

I heard a rumor today that Tumbleweed on the river was going to close. Something about not being able make money due to the high overhead associated with the location. Has anyone else heard this rumor?

Normally, when something of this nature occurs, facts are better than rumors. Where did you hear this information?

A friend of mine ate there over the weekend and heard a couple of the staff talking about it. I'm sure the if they do close it won't be until after Thunder. I was trying to be diplomatic about the subject by prefacing my post with Rumor. I figured if there was any truth to it someone here would certainly know.

Dude, I wasn't meaning to bust balls. It's just that if you post a rumor on this board, someone will. I was just trying to help you out. Actually, I hope they stay open. I love eating there for lunch. It IS a LOCAL place, isn’t it?

Actually, as most of us understand without having to have it explained to us, it's a Louisville-based regional chain that offers a pretty good illustration of how a business changes when it goes corporate.

I hope it stays open, though.

What about the rumor of it closing? That is the point here. As previously stated, I hope they stay open as well. They have a great space and concept over there. As much as I miss the old Weed, I love this new Weed on the river.

Hopefully it will stay open and do well. All of us here hate to see any restaurant close (especially local ones) and losing one that encourages people to go downtown is even a bigger loss.

100% agree. At least with the local and downtown edge.

but on the up side
the founder of tumbleweed is still in the business up at Rockwall in the Knobs

You misquoted me. That was the board moderater. He was trying to put me down as if I was not aware of how
a local chain becomes regionalized.

I was simply answering your question. You're awfully quick to take offense. Yet you keep coming back for more. Interesting.

Applebee's is a local place, right?

After all, they say they're the "neighborhood" bar & grill, and gee, what could be more local than that? The fact that their gift cards can be found in Wal-Marts coast-to-coast has no bearing on the equation.
