Cool spring holding back alfresco?

by Robin Garr » Thu Mar 27, 2008 6:12 pm

Hey! Is it just me, or is this about the darkest, cloudiest, rainiest and coolest spring since I don't know when? Where in the heck is global warming when we WANT it? :D

Seriously ... I'm curious if the restaurant community is seeing a slow start to outdoor/patio/alfresco dining this year, and if those who love to eat under sun and shade are feeling a pent-up demand. Is this starting out as a poor year for alfresco, or am I just asking too soon and it's only March and Derby's more than a month off so shaddap already?

Okay, I've rubbed my hands with chicken fat, faced the west, checked out squirrel behavior and (Robert here's your chance) proclaimed we've Broke ol' Man Winter's back.
So, break out the patio stuff an' in a couple of weeks we'll be a wash in warmer weather. You may want to make sure umbrellas are sound. April flowers....you know.
Hooray for warmer SUNNY weather.

It's kind of odd. We've had a few brave souls determined to eat on the patio, even tonight with the rain and the cool breeze. People, myself included, want Spring so badly. Every glimpse of sunshine has me rushing out to gussy up the exterior. I think we are all chomping at the bit to have 75 degrees and sun.

That said, business has been improving with the promise of spring...

Well..Here's the topic to think about...

Now that Smokers have been banished to the Outdoors ...

CAN YOU STILL ENJOY ALFRESCO DINING?....

Come springtime, I'll defiantly ask for a table outside that will allow me to smoke as I please!(damn dirty habit)

Unfortunately, we seem to have a really small window to really ENJOY eating outdoors.

By mid-May, it will be really hot and humid, and I will want to stay inside. Blah. I love cooler temps, usually. With the humidity, any higher than, say 85 or so, and I'm not a happy camper.

I'm ready for warmer temps and some SUN. Bring it on, please! :D

We're in the process of having our logia covered, both here and at the Bodega so we haven't been able to set up for the alfresco dining yet. When it is completed, it will be so nice to have ample lighting and a cover for the rainy weather. They plan to have it finished in the next couple of weeks. I can't wait!
