Schlafly Beer Dinner at Cafe Lou Lou - 6 courses $45!!

by Marsha L. » Wed Mar 26, 2008 4:45 pm

With Robin's kind permission, I'm happy to announce that Cafe Lou Lou will host a Schlafly Beer Dinner on Monday, April 14 at 6:00 PM. Clay and I have been working on the menu and pairings with Scott Shreffler of Schlafly, and here's what we've come up with so far:

Schlafly Beer Dinner at Café Lou Lou
Monday, April 14, 2008 @ 6:00 p.m.
$45 plus tax and gratuity

Appetizer
Sweet Chili Prawns on Toasted Rustic Bread
Garlic, white wine, chili sauce
Hefeweizen

Soup
Potato Beer Cheese Soup
Kenny’s Country White Cheddar, Schlafly Oatmeal Stout, Pancetta
Dry-Hopped American Pale Ale

Salad
Spring Pear Salad on Microgreens
Pt. Reyes Bleu Cheese, candied walnuts, Schlafly No. 15 mustard vinaigrette
Number 15

Entree
Chilean Sea Bass with Shiitake and Sherry-Tarragon Cream Sauce
Basmati rice, roasted asparagus
Biere de Garde

Entree
Seared Duck Breast with Cherry-Port Reduction
Pureed celery root, haricots vert
2007 Oak-Aged Barleywine

Dessert
Dark Mocha Stout Cake
Stout crème anglaise
2007 Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout
& Coffee Stout

**********************

Check it out: I scored a cool double-pairing for the finale. The cake will be made with the Schlafly Coffee Stout, the anglaise from the Bourbon Barrel Stout.

We'd love to get 100 reservations so we can close the joint down for the beer-dinner crowd only. It's two days after Thunder, and everyone will need a break before Derby.

Plus, you really can't get six courses like that for $45 every day.

Marsha,

We have a warm Yazoo stout bread pudding on the menu down here right now with a scoop of yazoo stout gelato that is pretty damn tasty. I would love to see what yours tastes like with those two incredible beers. I am not a huge fan of the yazoo stout but the cake is worth eating.

Prost!

Blake, we miss you 'round these parts, man. I think a good stout lends itself to all kinds of dessert applications; such a great base to jump off from. I wasn't able to get the ladies of St. Matthews (a big customer base of ours) to buy into (or buy, period) the BBC Bourbon Barrel Stout Ice Cream I made last fall, but we sure enjoyed eating it in the kitchen, and I'm looking forward to rocking that cake and anglaise combo.

I was wondering when this was going to come out. I was at Lou Lou when Clay was planning this. I will definately plan on being there.

Just wanted to bump this back up to the top to remind everyone that the Schlafly Beer Dinner at Cafe Lou Lou is coming up, Monday, April 14th. There are still seats left, but Clay and I are hoping to sell out the restaurant, so book soon. Honestly, there can't be a better deal in the city that night. The Lou Lou Crew outdid themselves on the menu, and we have some dynamite beers to accompany the food. Also, I might bring along a few suprises to help finish off the evening. Hope to see everyone there.

Wow this looks fabulous. Unfortunately I will be in California. Maybe it will be so successful that you will do it again later in the summer!

Do we need to call Lou Lou & reserve? I showed Mike the menu & he was drooling on the keyboard.

Thanks Marsha! Yes, I believe Bob & Carol were sitting with Tom & Gina - if there's room for Mike & I, park us with them. We are really looking forward to this event!!!

By the way, there is a contest at work to reward the employee that books the most reservations for this event. The reward is a free Beer Dinner, but - since I will be working - I hope to win one for my beer-worshipping boyfriend. I found out today that I get credited for all the reservations mentioned in this thread, so please, if you are thinking of going, let us know in this thread.

I thank you, and my boyfriend thanks you. And every free beer dinner gets me closer to that engagement ring.

Work with me here, people. :)

Marsha,
The biggest reason we choose to make reservations was YOU. You represent Cafe Lou Lou very well and I feel welcome even not having met you yet! :D
Please make sure your management counts our reservation for you.
