Did YOU attend Dining for Dan? Stories? Pics?

by Robin Garr » Tue Mar 25, 2008 4:08 pm

Thanks to a small, hard-working team of folks who pulled together and helped Mary pull together an all-too-belated short report on Dining For Dan. By all accounts it was a wonderful event, joyous fun for all in a foodie celebration of Dan Boyle's life and a very effective fund-raiser for his family.

I deeply regret that a bump in my road kept me from being there, and I regret it even more that the event was not reported here in a timely way. I hope this short after-report will make up for a little of that:

Even more, I hope any of you who were there will tack on to this thread with your own memories of the event - the food, the people, the scene, the feel, but most of all the food - and paste in pictures and other stuff if you've got 'em!

We've got two folders of photos (shot from two cameras) on the computer at work...
I'll copy them to a flash drive and bring them home to resize then upload them.

I will say that the list of supporting cast is vastly understated...

there were in the range of 30+ chefs in Corbett's kitchen that night,
i commented to Dean and a few others: "there are probably more chefs per square foot in here than ever in Louisville restaurant history".

I have a few on my computer here at home, i'll upload in a bit.

I asked Dean if the video feed(s) was recording, and i think he said he something about making copies on dvd of the night...
but don't quote me on that.

I put vegetables in your desserts, white chocolate with your fish and other nonsense stuff that you think shouldn't make sense, but coax the nonsense into something that makes complete sense in your mouth. Just open your mind, mouth and eat.

Great contribution, Ethan! Thanks a lot, and if you find more, we'd love to see them, too.

No, we can quote Dean on that. :) He told Mary the same thing. Well, he told her that he "videotaped" the event, but I think we can safely assume that a lot of it got laid down in digits.

So glad to say that Yes! I did attend the fabulous event for Danny. Sorry that attendance was sparce, as you could not ever get that kind of chefs & wine pairings for $150. In the interest of full disclosure, I am Anoosh's sig other-- but did purchase 2 tickets to bring a friend to enjoy the food & silent auction. Every chef did incredible things w/ their courses, and graciously spoke to each group of people when explaining their dish. For so many busy chefs to give up a sacred sunday, I am just sorry more people did not support this event. I had the extreme pleasure of meeting and eating w/ a fellow forumite, Mellissa, as well as another new friend from Open Table, Molly. Safe to say that our table of 4 girls had too much fun-- and I can't wait to do it again.

The silent auction had some great items, sorry to say that I got beat out at the last minute on the items I was bidding on, but the sincere appreciation from Dan's wife made me so glad that I had "bid up " several items.

The wine Karen Shane put together was incredible-- so much so that i can't quite remember all that we drank-- she deserves incredible thanks for her part in this as well. All of the servers donated their time, what a great group of people. Again, sorry so many of you missed the fun & food-- but to those that did come, we had a great time. Hopefully some more pictures will be forthcoming.

Paula :D

Hello All!

What a night it was! And thanks again to Paula for letting me crash her table. The gals had a ball! I'm trying to upload pics of each course from the event, but I'm afraid I'm having issues because the file sizes are too large. Robin, I will e-mail them to you and hopefully you can append them to this posting. I'm sorry that other forumites had to miss it. I saved the menu for my collection, and all the particpating chefs were kind enough to sign it, so it will be hanging on my "menu wall" soon!

Gladly! If they're too large to go through, Melissa, Email me and we'll work out an alternate route.
