My significant other and I were craving a late breakfast before work today, and decided to drop in to Wild Eggs to see what all the buzz was about...and we were glad we did.
Parking was ample, but quite full, on our arrival at 11:30 or so. I guess I underestimated the popularity of the place, and was not expecting them to be on a wait - just 15 minutes, the very friendly host informed us. In reality it was less, more like 7 or 8, but we were happy to wait, and enjoy a cup of complimentary coffee offered in the foyer. It would have been nice to have some extra seating in the wait area, but not a big deal.
We were seated in a very spacious booth with real silverware and cloth napkins (in a breakfast joint? Nice touch!). Our server was immediately present, serving ice-cold water from a carafe, which was left at the table. I ordered OJ (fresh squeezed, with just the right amount of sweet/tart balance, and enough pulp to provide texture, but not be overbearing on the tongue. Becca ordered a pomegranite mimosa, with Yellow Tail sparkling wine, which was quite good - just a hint of pomegranate juice, positively delicious.
We decided to order two breakfasts, and share them, and settled on the Hippy Granola Waffle, served with fresh fruit compote, granola, and whip cream - it was wonderful, light and fluffy, and did not need syrup at all. We also got the frittata with chorizo, peppers, onions, cheese, and topped with pico, avocado, and scallions. Both were delicious, filling, and satisfying.
Service was attentive without being overbearing, very friendly. The dining room was bustling but not noisy. It was exactly the breakfast that we were looking for, and Wild Eggs has moved up to be our #1 favorite breakfast spot in town, a sure destination for us, and a recommendation for locals and out-of-town guests as well.
Our check for 2 breakfasts, one OJ, and the Mimosa was about $24, a great price for the experience. If anyone has not had the chance to try them out, I hope you do soon. Next time, we're sure to try the bloody marys, which I hear are top-notch, and the grits of the day, whatever they may be.
