Cafe Lou Lou's Marsha L. ... dessert goddess

by Rebecca Clark » Mon Mar 17, 2008 11:16 am

Because of this forum and all the positive reviews, I checked out Cafe Lou Lou's about six months ago. It is now one of my top three faves in town. I keep trying to sample new things, but after starting a more "healthy" eating lifestyle around the first of the year, my choices have been somewhat limited. I do, however, try to budget the calories for Marsha L.'s desserts ....

Sunday evening, I was tired from working so many hours the weekend and just wanted something good for dinner with no concern for the calories! After a half order of the Pasta Carbonera (which is delicious but very rich!), I had the tiramisu. OH MY GOSH!!! It was so light, yet so decadent. It was well worth the extra miles I will have to put in this week to work it off!

I keep thinking I am going to finally try one of Marsha's creations that I won't like ... that day has yet to arrive and I'm beginning to doubt it ever will! Everything I've tried seems to top the one before! Vanilla creme brulee, coconut cake, lavender-honey sorbet and now tiramisu ... the list goes on and on. Kudos once again, Marsha! Yet another splendiferous creation!!! Can't wait for the sorbets to start rolling out once again (although I will miss the Penguin)! :)

I will miss the penguin as well, but he had an heroic run. His two (!) replacements are ready to go, and I will be making the first of the spring sorbets this week. I will also be resurrecting my house-made old fashioned banana pudding in the coming weeks.

Rebecca, thanks for the kudos. You're always so sweet - sweets for the sweet!

Doogy, please do! - honestly I was just thinking earlier that I can't figure out why you haven't come to see me already - you seem to get around quite a bit (I mean foodie-wise! )

Hint for home banana-pudding makers: Use vanilla pudding, NOT BANANA CREME, which has a sort of fake banana whang to it. The banana flavor in the dish should come from the sliced bananas only. Also, the recipe I use is readily available online everywhere; just remember it's the one with instant, no-cook pudding, and cream cheese.

Yep Doogy, you got it in one, we are over by the Old Sears building, where Asiatique used to be, where Beef O'Brady's used to be, in the shopping center where Kinko's used to be (I think). 8)

I have actually been to every one of those places. I am from the olden days of downtown St. Matthew's. I loved it when my dad would take us kids to Sear's and we could get candy. Now I shall come to see YOU.

Ha! I just made that banana pudding recipe on Sunday for a pot luck. It was a HUGE hit and a scraped clean pan to carry home!

I've not made one for a long time, but I'm pretty sure I could. I already have a good caramel frosting in my arsenal!

Every year, the hubby asks what kind of cake I want for my birthday, and it's the same answer every year...caramel cake. We usually get it at Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen, but after hearing everyone rave about your cakes, I think I may be sending him your way!
