Kelsey's in New Albany has closed and soon will reopen as yet another El Nopal, reports LEO writer Kevin Gibson. Always a shame to see another local joint go down.

Near the Pilsbury plant off Grantline Rd. Right across the street from NABC.

They had a long run in business. Its a shame to see another place go. There was worries over what the road construction would do to their business, but I guess that will be El Nopal's worry. From my count, that is 2 places that El Nopal has replaced in the past month or so (Los Indios was the other)

Well at least El Nopals are local too.

Kelsey's has been down for a while, and to be honest, I didn't think anyone would go for the property given that there is a strong possibility of major road construction coming in about a year. If it comes to pass, Grant Line Road will be closed at the rail corssing for quite some time.

Note that this closing WOULD NOT AFFECT NABC because we'd still be accessible from the Interstate in the usual way, albeit with a traffic jam caused by disoriented Wal-Mart shoppers.

Gee, wouldn't it be great if El Nopal survived the closing and Wal-mart went belly-up. Man, I sure still hate chains.

Note also that the La Rosita's Taqueria is right across Grant Line from us, and that there's no need for El Nopal ... but that's just my opinion. I'm sure the margaritas will be nice, and the kelsey's building has a nice outdoor seating area to watch the bulldozers from.

Kelsey's has been closed a while. Frankly, we don't need another El Nopal. They are in Georgetown, Charlestown Road in New Albany, and Sellersburg. Kelsey's food wise, was often a mixed bag. Some was good some was not very good. Service was very spotty. They did, however, have awesome cheeseburgers and fries and for those two items, I will miss them greatly.
