Do we open tonight?

by Michele Melillo-Clem » Sat Mar 08, 2008 10:02 am

Ok, food friends. Do you think hungry people will venture downtown tonight to eat Italian food at Melillo's or any downtown restaurant for that matter? It's a hard call and being a family run restaurant, every one of us has a different opinion. Could we please have yours. Thanks.

It is crazy that you are the one asking this question Michele, It was our plan to dine with you this evening before I leave town, and I was going to send you a PM and see if you would be open. We won't be able to stay put in the house all day so you can count on a table of two at 6:15 or so tonight if you open. Of course if it doesn't look like many people will be headed out then don't make any decision based on a couple of two tops. I will check back here later and see. Thanks!

Prost!

At this moment, we're aiming for an evening opening, perhaps 3:00 p.m.

This is a tough call, indeed.

(Putting on safety man hat and clearing throat, stepping on soapbox)

Good people,

If you have no emergency reason to be out on the road today PLEASE STAY HOME!!!!

Emergency equipment response time has been slowed incredibly just by weather alone. EMS crews will be parking in the street and hauling stretchers longer distances. Additional fire apparatus have been added to each response due to the road conditions. Add people in cars and chaos ensues. For the safety of your staff and the other people whom emergency services will be trying to reach today take the day off.

Thanks

(Jumping on Ed's soapbox)

I will second Ed's recommendation. It looks like the snow will continue through to at least noon. Think about what is in your front yard and realize a lot of that is still on the side streets. Add cars, trucks, snow plows and the general inexperience of drivers in this area with the road contitions. The Metro Gov is saying they are not expecting to have the roads in drivable conditions for many more hours, despite constant road treatment. According to hubby, the city main streets are in better condition than the Interstates, so if you HAVE to go out, plan your route well. Please help your neighbors that may not be able to shovel their walks. My son does 2 other houses in the neighborhood when he does our walk, for neighbors that cannot shovel. If you have a MSD drain outside your house, clear the grate for the future melt, it will save your street from some flooding. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND STAY SAFE!!!

[piling on Ed's soapbox]

We all dream of a day like today. It's an honest to goodness snow day, enjoy it! The roads are still a bit perilous and the more people that venture out the more perilous it will become. Take a day off, snuggle up at home with loved ones, a good book or a good Bogart movie and just enjoy the peace and tranquility of not having to go anywhere or do anything. Tomorrow we can get the wheels of capitalism moving again and return to routines.

Whatever you chose to do, be safe and stay warm, and take one ride down the hill for me! :D

Hi Michele and all:
Come Back Inn (Lou. location) will not open tonight. I don't want my staff driving, as some of them live kinda far. Not sure what's going to happen with the Indiana location at this time.

I made the call based on my confirmations. Yes! we will be open. I've been at both locations shoveling the sidewalks and actually the roads are not bad. It's mostly powder, and the trucks have cleared most major streets and the highways. If it was colder and we had ice, then that would be a different story. So, if you live in walking distance in the Highlands, just put your new scarf and those snow boots you got for X-mas and come have some food at Seviche. I will send out some Bocaditos to the brave. But first of all BE SAFE! As I said it's mostly powder, but still BE SAFE!

Buen provecho y muchas gracias!

Thanks everyone. We've decided to be open this evening. Our parking lot has been plowed, Artemesia and Primo are open, so we'll keep Market Street as alive as possible and be there also. Our special this evening will be our Vegetable Lasagna Roll filled with mushrooms, zucchini, asparagus, spinach, carrots, peppers, ricotta, mozzarella, provolone, Romano. Sound good? We will also have a snow special on three of our wines. Bridlewood Viognier, Frei Brothers Russian River Chardonnay, and Louis Martini Napa Cabernet Sauvignon will be offered for $20 a bottle. We hope to see some of you snuggled in our cozy spot on Market. Be safe.

Lasagna roll

That lasagna roll is fabulous. Michelle graciously provided us wino regulars at Felice with an entire plate full last night. Fabulous! Same for the chicken salad. Much appreciated Michelle.

60 West will open its doors at 5:00pm as ussual. We have some reservations that must be taken care of. An early close is possible considering how the roads hold up. Travel safe Louisville if you venture out.

My husband and I ended up at Melillo's on Saturday night actually! After an afternoon of sledding at the crescent hill golf course, followed by he and a few of our neighbors shovelling our entire little dead end hill of a street, we were ready for some hearty Italian food! Plus we had a fabulous Louisville Originals gift certificate to use!

Everything was great! We started with a rice ball and then I had the 1/2 order of eggplant parm while Mike had the 1/2 order of chicken parm. I had ALMOST given up ordering eggplant parm out because hardly anyone seems to be able to get it right. But Melillo's got it right! It was crispy, and cooked perfectly.

And my husband who is an Italian Jersey boy declared the sauce FANTASTIC - which is the true test in my eyes. Our only regret of the evening was not ordering dessert because we were FULL. But the table behind us proceeded to order a slice of chocolate layer cake and when we heard the server tell them that it was still quite warm and hadn't sliced well so it was on the house combined with the smell of hot chocolate cake hitting our noses, we regretting not ordering any for about 6 seconds before our bellies reminded us of how full we were!

My husband and I were the ones who ordered the chocolate layer cake and I really feel like it was the best cake I've ever had. You may have heard us saying "Oh my Gosh" over and over again. I told him I would have pretty much paid any price they wanted to charge for it.

It was our first time dining there and were very impressed. We're expecting also so we were thrilled about how kid-friendly they are!
