Frank's Steakhouse....Another Quick Review

Last night the wife and I went to the Shelbyville Rd. location of Frank's. I am very familiar with the original in Jeffersonville and have had many a meal there with varied results in service and food but none the less I've felt it was pretty OK most of the time.

We were pleasantly greeted and seated at a booth in the bar area. The decor is pretty much the same as the former Garrett's that occupied the space prior to Frank's. Our server presented the wine list(A wine list at Frank's?) that proved to be a fairly servicable list relying on mostly low end popular wines like St Francis, Sonoma-Cuter, Ravenswood, that were resonablely priced.

We both ordered the 10 0z Ribeye. Mine medium rare with loaded baked potato and Colleen's got medium with a loaded sweet potato.

We munched away happily on our house salads that were very fresh and crisp. The blue cheese I ordered appered to be house made as well as the tasty smoked tomato dressing that Colleen ordered per our server's suggestion.

We also recived a loaf of brown bread that seemed the frozen par-baked sort that was OK.

After a short wait we were presented our entrees. Unfortunately, the kitchen had placed her medium steak on my plate and she got my medium rare. The only bump in the road of an otherwise nice experience After switching them out ourselves which I didn't really mind, I dug into my perfectly cooked steak that had a hint of smoky flavor. I asked the server when he came back to check on us about it and he replyed that they use a wood burning grill with seasoned hickory wood. (A wood burning grill at Frank's?)
The meat itself was nicely seasoned and was greatly enhanced by the hickory smoke. Not prime graded but it was still a nice steak. I suspect it was a choice cerified angus piece of meat that was more than resonably priced at 16.99 with the sides included.

I left noticing the smell of hickory in the air looking forward to my next visit.

Wow, I'm really impressed if they are making their own cheese in the back. :wink:

This Frank's vastly different from the one on the "sunny" side of the river. That said, it is Garrett's reincarnate....I am sure that there are plenty on here that didn't care for Garrett's or that style of cuisine. But there's something to be said about good food, that is very reasonably priced. I have a very soft spot for Garrett's and Frank's is doing a good job of trying to be Garrett's right now. I give them all the props in the world, and I try to visit as often as possible.
