Velocity: Pub grub and Lite at Good Times Pub

by Robin Garr » Wed Feb 27, 2008 10:40 am

Velocity's Lisa Hornung checks out the pub grub at Good Times Pub (formerly Jasper's) in Middletown and finds it fine, and the service better still. She and a pal wash it all down with ... Miller Lite.

Extra credit to the first who can spot the grammatical error in Velocity's headline ...

Good Times Pub comes through on it's promise
Just don't expect to see Jimmy 'J.J.' Walker at the bar

And it's not just Velocity that needs to go back to grammar school, this happens in the CJ all the time. Where are the copy editors?

Did anyone notice she left at least a 25.75% tip? Seems like the cod was well prepared and served in good portions. All the bashing is just unreal. This is a food forum, yet every post on this subject picks nits with either the grammar (like everyone on this board uses perfect grammar, PLEASE), the review, the reviewer for her choice of brew or the C-J. Not one mention of the actual review of the food at the Good Times Pub.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

What's to say? It was a typical Velocity review: She wrote exactly 92 words about the food and used them to report that the nachos were nothing unusual, the fish large, crunchy and delicious, crispy and perfectly fried, and the slaw pretty basic.

There's not much to comment on, and your input doesn't really advance the conversation.

I believe I advanced the topic by pointing out the tip, which you didn't. You used to bash her for giving less than 20%. I also mentioned the food, which no one else did. So please do not tell me I didn't advance the topic.

Have it your way. Please go pick on someone else for a while. It used to be Robert. Isn't there someone else amongst the 846?

You know, Doogy, to be blunt, I can't think of another forumite who offers the same amusing style of social graces that you bequeath on us.

I never expect perfect grammar on these or any other boards, but a newspaper should be expected to use correct grammar, especially in the headline. It's their JOB!

Laura, I totally agree that news organizations should be held to a higher standard than people participating in an internet forum. And that particular grammatical error is my pet.frickin'.peeve.

Did you read Eats Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss? It's a grammar lesson disguised as a humor story. She would howl at the headline. (And, I agree - a major daily newspaper should be held to a higher standard.)

Let's have a poll on ME. Based on the outcome, I will either go or stay. Let the 846 decide.

That's not the way it works, Doogy. There's one bartender in this virtual pub, one host in this party that we're having in my house. I'm easy to get along with, but if somebody comes to my house often and frequently makes an @$$ of himself, eventually I'll ask him to please stop coming. I don't delegate a decision like that, any more than the owner of a restaurateur - let's say Maido, for instance - asks the customers if he should throw out someone who really doesn't belong.
