Another one bites the dust! Los Indios is now El Nopal

by Lois Mauk » Tue Feb 26, 2008 10:27 pm

Last night, we went to Los Indios Mexican restaurant on Charlestown Road in New Albany (across from Zesto's). It is now an El Nopal, one of 14 in the chain.

The staff seems to be the same. The sign out front has changed and the menus are different. The food was quite good, but the choices had changed. The cheese quesadilla seemed smaller. I don't have a previous menu, but I think the prices have gone up substantially. BUT, no more $0.98 Margarita nights!

I assume the Highlander Point and Corydon restaurants have changed as well.

Please tell me where Highlander Point is. DH and I drove around southern Indiana last week looking for it.

I used to be one of the suppliers to many of the El Nopals in the area and I'm not surprised that they raised their prices when they took over the new place. They never buy frozen meat, only fresh, and most of them always kept their high standard in cheeses for their queso and salads. Even when the price of cheese almost doubled overnight they never cut their cost by cutting their quality. If they've raised any of their menu prices then it's LONG over due. (Less than a year ago you could eat a hugh stuffed pepper, refried beans and a salad for less money than a value meal at MacDonalds. And that was with table service on real plates and silverware!) I think they're the best value in the city.

Highlander Point is in the Knobs northwest of New Albany. Easiest route is I-64 west via Sherman-Minton bridge, 4.2 miles to US-150W (exit 119), 3/4 mile to first set of traffic lights and turn left. You'll see shopping/restaurants on your right.
