New restaurant in Mall St. Matthews

by Mark R. » Fri Feb 15, 2008 4:10 pm

Has anyone heard about the second Red Robin restaurant going into Mall St. Matthews? Supposedly is going to go in right behind The Cheesecake Factory. While we really enjoying Red Robin I'm kind of surprised to hear that a second one is opening so quickly here. I heard that originally a steak restaurant was going to go in but they were only planning on being open for dinner (not lunch) so this caused problems with the mall.

on the Red Robin website. The do list "coming soon" locations, but none are listed for Louisville.

I work at a construction plan room (a library for construction projects, basically), and we just received the blueprints for the Red Robin today.

So, yes, Red Robin is coming to a mall near you very soon. The job bids late this month, so my guess is that it'll be opened sometime in April.

Would that be with Dodge?

(-: No, that would be Builders Exchange of Kentucky; a local, non-profit competitor of Dodge. Going 81 years strong this year.

Would it be going in the former Panera bread space?
Panera (in case no one knew) will be moving to Oxmoor center next month!
Now if they can only do something about that eyesore of a Sears wing!!

I believe it's going to be in the back corner of the food court (southeast corner) and it looks like they'll probably have to outside entrance much like The Cheesecake Factory. I haven't heard of anything going into where Panera was, I wish it was staying at Mall St Matthews instead of moving to Oxmoor. Also the majority of the old Applebee's location is again vacant since the real estate office that was there has closed. That end of the mall definitely needs another place with real food instead of cinnamon buns and pretzels!

I definitely agree about the Sears wing of Oxmoor (including Sears). Unfortunately the new Panera is going to be up along the front next to the California Pizza Kitchen.

You know, it's funny. There was a time I thought Oxmoor was heading the Bashford Manor route. Then they expanded with the sporting goods store. Then they got some new non-food court restaurants that people actually want to go to. Some shops came and went relatively quickly leaving me questioning still, but now we have a relatively successful place leaving St. Mathews to move to Oxmoor? They've really made a comback in my eyes. I agree the Sears wing does still need an over-haul though.

As I understand it, Oxmoor is working on a refinement that could make it even more cool ... they intend to create some kind of public open space surrounding several food operations (including CPK and the new BJ's) in an outdoor courtyard setting kind of like The Summit.

I think most people would consider Oxmoor to be part of St. Matthews, by the way ... oddly, it was annexed as a little "island" by the city of Louisville before merger, but St. Matthews does extend east of the Watterson among the jigsaw puzzle of little cities in that area, and a good bit of the land right across the street from Oxmoor is still in St. Matthews.

At first I was confused why this was included then I realized I wasn't very clear in that last statement. When I said "moving from St Mathews to Oxmoor" I didn't mean the areas, it was just short hand for "from St. Mathews mall to Oxmoor mall". I pretty much consider them to be the same area as well, with names being mere technicalities.

Ah, right, got it! I was mostly just nattering on for the benefit of lookers-on who don't know stuff like where the old East Drive-in and Bob Colglazier's Ranch House used to be. :D
