another good-bye

The purpose of this is NOT to get flamed, and also not to start another round of chain vs local.

I'm just sorry that the Home Town Buffet next to Wall-Mart in Springhurst (off of Westport Rd & the Gene Snyder) just closed. I'm sorry when anyone has to close! This was a good "people feeder" place, with food slightly above average for that type, and a place where some nights my wife & I would go when we wanted a really cheap dinner, decent juicy baked chicken, and didn't want to have to clean up or wait for service.

We weren't true "regulars", but it did have its place in the vast scheme of things!

I agree, Andrew. Any restaurant closing is a possible blow to the health of the restaurant community.

Hometown Buffett Closing- One of many

by David Lange » Fri Feb 15, 2008 3:06 pm

Unfortunately, Home Town Buffet's parent company Buffets Inc. announced the closing of 20 locations nationwide. They declared banqruptcy earlier this year and have been trying to righten themselves. I guess these closing are their latestest attempt.

The closing is probably partially due to the opening of the new Wal-Mart on Shelbyville Road. The Wal-Mart next to Hometown Buffet is certainly a lot less busy these days so probably fewer people are coming to the restaurants around it.

On the other hand several new restaurants have already opened around the new Wal-Mart and I'm sure more will soon so overall the restaurant scene is just shifting to a different location.

Gawd, I hope that one isn't closed. Every once in a blue moon, the hubby and I will go early and eat breakfast there. They have pretty decent french toast, and an omelet station. It's not gourmet by any stretch, but still a nice treat.

I drove by the Chamberlain Ln. Hometown Buffet the other night and wondered why it seemed to have closed early. I usually dined there twice a month. Once for breakfast and the other time for either lunch or dinner. I think I will miss it. But I am really looking forward to Backyard Burgers opening up where Frisch's used to be.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.
