If you still miss Gasthaus, one of Louisville's most popular German restaurants until its 2022 closing, you might be excited about Gasthaus Cookbook & Memories, a cookbook featuring many of the restaurant's recipes from Nina Greipel, daughter of the German family that founded the restaurant in 1993.

Nina has a book signing planned at Carmichael's Bookstore, 2720 Frankfort Avenue,Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m.

Here's more detail on her book, taken from the massive online bookstore that you'd really rather go to Carmichael's instead. ;)

Welcome to The Gasthaus: A German Culinary Legacy.
For nearly three decades, the Gasthaus stood like a warm, flickering candle off Brownsboro Road in Louisville, Kentucky—a hidden gem where authentic German flavors met the spirit of Gemütlichkeit. Founded in 1993 by Annemarie and Michael Greipel, this family-owned restaurant became more than a local favorite—it became a cherished tradition.
Now, in this 190-page, full-color German cookbook, Nina Greipel—daughter of the founders—invites you into her kitchen, where the Gasthaus spirit has been kept alive. With 80 recipes passed down through generations and lovingly served to thousands, this book offers a rare opportunity to recreate the soul-warming dishes that made the restaurant unforgettable.
You will find recipes such as:
Sauerbraten
Rouladen
Red Cabbage
Spätzle
Sauerkraut
Cucumber Salad
Cheese Soup
Apple Strudel
Cheesecake
Strawberry Napoleon
and many more....
Each recipe is brought to life through Nina’s own photography, captured in her home kitchen, along with detailed instructions and helpful tips to ensure a successful cooking experience.
Whether you were a longtime guest of the Gasthaus or are simply hungry for authentic German comfort food, this book is both a tribute and a celebration. A way to gather, to cook, and to remember the contribution of German immigrants to Louisville, Kentucky.
Willkommen—and guten Appetit.
