Mashup Food Hall

I stopped by there earlier today. Its a nice concept, especially for that location. Its worth popping in at least to check it out. I'm sure that the food selections will change as the market finds its footing.

I think that the place has a comfortable and very roomy design and will be busy during the cold months when people are looking for a warm place to hang around for an hour or two. It favors those hanging around with a flipped up laptop!

Went there this evening with my friend. Immediately upon entering the front door, we were bombarded with deafeningly loud live music being played in the bar area. We had planned on having a drink, but the prospect of having to scream at the bartender over the music ruined that thought. There were only a handful of people there around 6:30, but a few more trickled in later.

Red Top appears to have its traditional menu available. I assume Gustavo's has a limited menu, and Barcelona definitely does, although you can definitely find something good at any of those booths. Barcelona had a special of a Cuban sandwich with fries, which was impressively good and had a Grey Poupon-style mustard. The fries were nicely seasoned. My friend got elote and nachos from Gustavo's. I didn't try the elote, but the nachos were excellent. There are some quieter (but still not quiet) tables towards the back. Background music continued to play over the PA system as the band blared away out front.

This place has potential. They need to shut off the PA system when a band is playing, turn down said band's volume, install some acoustic tiles, and perhaps convert one of the two rooms at the rear of the hall to be soundproof/quiet rooms. For those who don't live nearby, it's a pretty big ask to pay for parking given the experience we had.

Thanks for the follow-up, Nathaniel. That does not sound like an experience I'd want to repeat, although I'm certainly willing to check it out ... preferably when there's no band.

Let's add a link to this Nulu operation so folks can dig deeper:

I went there during the afternoon. It was peaceful. I would not enjoy music blasted as described above. They must be targeting a younger evening crowd.

They failed, lol. The people there were thirtysomethings (some with young kids), some Boomers enjoying Wine Wednesday, us (fortysomething but identify as younger), and a fiftysomething lady with teenagers in tow.

I stopped by there Sunday late afternoon about 4:30. I ordered a sandwich and fries from Barcelona Bistro. They had a special of Cuban or Roast Beef sandwich with fries for $15.00. The beef sandwich that I ordered was essentially a Cuban sandwich with a different sauce, at least that's what I was told as I thought they had screwed up the order.

The sandwich consisted of ultra-processed ham, just normally processed beef, ok cheese, and good baguette bread. The fries were typically frozen and nothing to get excited about. I was anticipating a beef sandwich, probably with au jus, and ended up with an almost non-edible concoction headlined by, as I described earlier, ultra processed ham. I certainly don't recommend that choice. However, I wouldn't NOT recommend stopping by and checking out some other stuff on the menu.

Addressing an earlier boast about load music, it was tranquil when I was there and fairly empty. They close at 6:00 on Sunday and most booths had already closed by the time I got there.

That doesn't sound spectacularly compelling. I hope maybe Sunday afternoon late just isn't the best time?
