DiFabio's Casapela closing

by Mike L » Mon Nov 03, 2025 9:14 am

I hate to see them go. It was a cozy restaurant with great atmosphere, great food, great service. It filled the role Ray Parella's used to play in that spot. Another big loss of homestyle-ish Italian, like Comeback Inn.

From their Facebook page:

"After 15 years of serving the best customers there are, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors at the end of this year. We will be open on the Eves, Thanksgiving Eve 11.26.25, Christmas Eve 12.24.25 & New Year’s Eve 12.31.25 which will be our last service. Our food freezes well if you would like to place any carryout orders. Although we will miss our wonderful clientele and excellent staff, we are excited about the future and what new adventures we will discover. So come on out and support us for these last 2 months and hopefully we will sell out of food and drinks!"

Yes, sad. I liked it, and I enjoyed judging cake with Caity DiFabio and others at the Crescent Hill 4th of July Picnic every year. 8)

I did think it had gotten kind of expensive for what it was, but I agree that it was good food in a nice atmosphere.

I don't know their situation but I'm guessing that's part of the point. They probably had to either raise prices or go out of business. At some point you reach a point where you can't raise prices any higher and people will still come in.

I'm guessing we're going to end up with a restaurant industry that looks like a lot of other industries, dominated by a few very large companies racing to put out the poorest product they can that people will still buy.

It could be a few of the above reasons for closure. However, it may just simply be time to move on after 15 years. I have no clue. There is certainly a trend of restaurants belonging to bigger entities wiggling there way into the market seemingly at the expense of ma and pas. Luckily, Louisville has strong community support for our local businesses.
