Crafthouse Pizza at Colonial Gardens

If this is not a hoax, this is perhaps one of the most egregious things I've ever seen management do to their servers.

In general I only leave reviews when I receive terrible food or service or the establishment is dirty. To think that these servers would get fired because they don't get 2 reviews specifying THEIR NAMES in September, they'll get fired just really angers me.

Thoughts? Has anyone seen this sort of thing happen at other restaurants?

I will never darken their door at any of their locations if that's how they treat their servers.

Edit: Supposedly this is for all Crafthouse locations, but I'm not clear on whether it's just this "Cortland" that's going to fire people over it.

I was waiting all day to see a decent reply to this post. But no. So here’s my 2 cents. You say you only leave negative reviews. That’s why these restaurants are desperate for pushing the servers for positive reviews. Ninety percent of people that have negative experience post. Ninety percent of those who have positive feedback do not.
Social media is so important these days that a negative response is more important than a positive review. I don’t like it, but it is.
An ex employee can flame a small business and get their buddies on board. A problem that should be brought to attention and solved within the restaurant gets national media attention. (Bitchy waiter in this case)
The company may well be wrong, but torturing the employees at other locations is also wrong and just ick.

Sorry, Terri, I normally check in here multiple times a day, but I got super busy. :(

This is a little complicated. First, the company apologized and now says they were misunderstood. There's also a hint that the manager responsible for that did it without higher management knowledge and has been disciplined. At the least, management is very quickly backing away from this. So, who knows? But I won't personally boycott without more knowledge including how the employees feel about it now.

I'll try to get back with a link in a while, :)

What this leads to is the server asking their tables for reviews. Does the establishment really want their patrons being pressured to do that? The server is there to provide service, not to demand a service from me.

If management wants feedback in the form of reviews, then they need to pay a company who provides a “secret shopper” type service. Servers are not the marketing department. Jeez.

At this point it seems that there probably is some failure to communicate, and Craft House management is certainly taking a beating. Here's the restaurant's explanation/sort-of-apology on Facebook, with a very long and mostly negative thread with management jumping back in periodically.

And here's a comment that management added after a lot of angry pushback from people calling them liars and such ...

As an introvert (and a pretty hard core one at that), I don't like being pressured into doing anything. I'm constantly bombarded with review requests from my doctors and from online purchases. It's my prerogative to leave or not leave a review.

Here's the thing with leaving glowing reviews: They're not always trustworthy. Now this applies more perhaps to Amazon than local restaurants, but I've seen absolutely glowing reviews for some places in town, picked a restaurant based on them, only to be completely disappointed. Conversely, I've seen absolutely horrible reviews and for whatever reason also ate there, and found no truth in the bad reviews. Some people just get grudges (and disgruntled ex-employees are known to leave bad reviews).

There's no way to win with that. My "reviews" are my return business. I can only think of one establishment in the city that I never set foot in again, but that was because I posted a negative review here on Hotbytes (food was ok; service was abysmal and this was years before C19 came along) and the owner got irate in my mailbox about it. Temper tantrums from a restaurant owner are a bad look. In fact, I tend to pay more attention to business owners' responses to reviews than I do the actual reviews.

If this was a one-off by a manager with delusions of grandeur, I don't have a problem with the entire chain or their staff.

Wow! Terri, I think that kind of response from the manager reveals a great deal about the manager and the restaurant where they work!
