Reservation faux pas?

by Ellen P » Thu Aug 08, 2024 2:45 pm

10 of us at brunch recently. 8 had never been to the restaurant before. Daughter called in the reservation. As we went to our table, we were surprised to see that we were outside. Fortunate that it wasn't hot or buggy yet, but no one asked our preference at reservation time.
Toward the end of the meal, the weather did become hot & buggy. We asked for to go containers for the rest of our food (7 out of 10 hadn't finished).
Normally, we love getting one of each dessert and sharing but we were ready to go.
Shouldn't the restaurant have asked inside or out? As we were leaving, we noticed the dining room was almost empty. We could have eaten a little later if asked.
Mike & I had been before. Had raved to family about the place. (We're trying to eat at 'new to us' restaurants. This one had been around 25 years.)
Emailed the restaurant. No response. I guess they figured they got our money once. Ellen

Ellen, I would definitely be irritated if I made a reservation and found out to my surprise that it was outside if that hadn't been discussed! I don't blame you for being annoyed about this.

One suggestion: I've found that a lot of restaurants (and other businesses) aren't good about responding to email. I usually have better luck sending a direct message from their Facebook page, or calling them up (during non-busy hours). Might be worth a try if you'd still like to pursue it.

Thanks, I will. I'm one of those people who seldom criticizes a business publicly but will praise publicly. This was a BIG celebration too. Oh well. I never forget restaurant faux pas. Ellen

I don't blame you for remembering incidents like that, Ellen! If you ever do talk to management, I hope you'll take a moment to let me know how it went. :)

Since a message after the email. No response. Busy? Don't care? We'll never know because we aren't going back to Selenas. Service is our top priority. Doesn't matter how good the food is if you don't get waited on or there is some disappointment. (Not talking about kitchen delays when server takes care of us.) I guess they have enough business. It was also a big birthday celebration which was cut short due to heat and bugs. Ellen

Ellen, the key point to me is the lack of a response. I'm always willing to hear an explanation, but crickets? I'm outtathere.
