Limon y Sal will replace The Raven

by Rich S » Tue Jul 23, 2024 9:15 am

Limon y Sal will be opening a second location at the former Raven location, 3900 Shelbyville Road, according to a legal ad it ran to get a liquor license. I suspect it will do well there. There are several taco places nearby, but I think El Tarasco is the only regular Mexican restaurant in the area.

Limon y Sal also planned to open a restaurant at the old Highlands Hammerheads location on Dundee Road, but I don't know what's going on with that. Limon y Sal still owns that building, though.

I actually reviewed the original Limon y Sal out in the East End during the recovery phase of the pandemic, and it wasn't bad. More akin to your Las Aztecas type than a taqueria, but not bad. I agree, it ought to do just fine on the St. Matthews strip.

I noticed their exterior sign is up. Had kind of forgotten they are opening a location in St. Matthews. It's a pretty bold move--in terms of other Latin fare, we have Taco Choza, Mojito in Havana, Senora Arepa, Taco Luchador, and El Tarasco within spitting distance.

I wondered about that, but Mexican food in general and tacos in particular are popular picks for late-night drinking fare, and as St. Matthews grows into a serious nightlife zone there may be room for lots of options. :)

I spoke too soon! I guess we're losing Senora Arepa, which probably merits a new post.
