Domo arigato, Mister Donato?

Two locations opening next year. I guess we need another pizza chain? I'm not sure I've ever had it, but the menu doesn't seem like anything special.

We would order from them when we lived in Lexington. We greatly preferred it to the major chains, but it would not approach any of the better local places here. I always liked the seasoning blend that topped the pizza, as well as the thin crust.

Better than a chain, worse than the good locals? That pretty much establishes its priority for me. Thanks, guys!

Same here! I probably had it a handful of times while in Lexington, but it doesn't compare to some other places. Maybe they've improved in 20 years, I don't know...I'd give it another try.

I'm glad for this, but mostly as a regional nostalgia/affinity thing. Donatos originated in Central Ohio, where I'm from, and I haven't found similar pies in this area. Thin crust, but not crispy like St Louis style; no edge crust ring, toppings to the edge, square party cut.

It certainly won't hold a candle to Coals, Lupo, etc, but I don't think it's meant to. In its home markets it's an alternative to Papa John's and Domino's, and IMO beats them handily.

Good to know. Thanks for the background, Jeff.
