Tropical Smoothie Cafe

I noticed that there is a new occupant where the Panera Express on Shelbyville Rd. in St Matthews used to be— Tropical Smoothie Cafe.

It’s a franchise (with stores in 45 states). But the food menu does look interesting, and the smoothies do sound refreshing!

Anyone been to one?

You may get to be the first, Marie! It does sound interesting, but the calorie count on smoothies scares me ...

A friend and I went 3 weeeks ago. It was good, but I did not leave with the feeling I wanted to go back. Not just the calorie count of the smoothies but the price, I thought, was extremely steep...about $8!

I got the thai chicken salad and it was very good. It seems to be more of a "to go" place but there are several small tables for dine in.

If you go, download their app and your first smoothie is free. The entire staff seeemed new (I believe they had just recently opened), and the salad which was supposed to be $9 was rang up at $3.95. I brought this to the cashiers attention and he said "don't worry about it"...I thought "whatever you say".

This salad and smoothie was menu priced at $17 and I walked out paying under $5! I did add a generous tip. Even a blind pig finds an acorn every now & then!

Not counting the little smoothies for kids, it appears they range from 180 (detox island green) to 770 (Chia Banana Boost with Peanut Butter) calories. A Mickey D's Big Mac is 563 calories for comparison. <burp>
