Rooties - Say it ain't so!

by Andrew Mellman » Sat Jul 29, 2023 1:13 pm

It's national chicken wing day, so I went to Rooties' web site to see if they were having special offerings. Couldn't get to the site.

Googled it, and it came up "permanently closed."

Anyone know anything? We haven't gone much since he retired, but the new owners appeared to be doing a great job (I thought).

That is a surprise! Do you know if the new owners were industry veterans or newcomers to the business? If the latter, I could see enthusiasm getting things off to a fast start but then post-pandemic realities of labor and supply setting in pretty fast.

While I have no direct knowledge, I read that he sold it to his then manager and other long-term employees.

We ate there and the food was as good as ever, plus she had added karaoke and other "events" during the week to draw in business.

I have no idea why they closed (assuming they did - I just have the google notice to go on).

Well, so much for my theory. Sorry about this disappointment. :(

Based on what his brother said I would expect criminal charges to be coming along shortly!

Well, now I’m hearing privately from the other side. I’ll try to get more info today and will pass it on.

Also, it appears that GoFundMe has halted donations.

We have deleted the Rootie’s fund raiser link because it appears to involve a sad controversy among family and friends.

My understanding is that the property is under contract. I think my well-informed source said it is being purchased by someone who plans to open another restaurant, but not sure about that.

Now the other side has a fund-raiser up. Without taking sides, I'll share the link to the new GoFundMe for your information.

My neighborhood forum says the owner has passed away and that the property will now be used by the nearby Humane Society.

Thanks, Carla. That's sad, but arguably better than another strip mall.

The Rooties property was purchased by Animal Care Society, which is right next door. ACS has some really cool plans for the building - stay tuned.

Sorry, I thought that was the Humane Society.
