Darnell Ferguson is now not planning on opening a new restau

by Mark R. » Mon Feb 06, 2023 4:15 pm

According to an article published in business 1st he is not going to concentrate on his television show for the Food Network instead of opening another restaurant here. Here's a portion of the article:
"Local fans of Darnell Ferguson will have to be content to watch him on his new television show because the celebrity chef plans to take a break from the restaurant business.

Ferguson hosted a red-carpet event at the Muhammad Ali Center on Sunday to share a preview of his new show, "Superchef Grudge Match," a one-hour program that premieres on the Food Network and streaming on Discovery+ at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Because of the new show, Ferguson said he has no plans to get back into the kitchen anytime soon. His super hero-themed restaurant SuperChefs closed in July 2022 after the lease on its Bardstown Road location ended. And his seafood restaurant, Tha Drippin' Crab at 1219 W. Jefferson St., closed permanently in January after less than two years in business."

Of course he's not going to reopen any restaurants after hitting the celebrity lottery! Why would he? He has the rare opportunity to increase his wealth and name recognition through television magic. The guy has a certain je ne sais quoi for this moment in time. When he does make his return, it will be on his own terms.

Don't forget that Damaris Phillips from Louisville also did sort of the same thing and for a while she was a star on many food channel programs and suddenly she dropped off the map as far as the Food Network is concerned. Hopefully the same thing won't happen to Darnell.

Good point, Mark. But I guess when you get the chance of a lifetime, you got to give it your best shot. I've been impressed with the guy for a while. Maybe he'll be our foodie Jack Harlow!

Damaris Phillips is a regular judge and competitor on Guy's Grocery Games and Beat Bobby Flay.

At least all the ones I've seen her on were older reruns, I haven't seen her on any of the new ones.

$500 - 5 COURSES

by JustinHammond » Mon Feb 27, 2023 6:11 pm

ROUND 149, an upscale pop-up restaurant, will be open at the Muhammad Ali Center in Downtown Louisville on Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6. The restaurant will serve five-course meal prepared by Ferguson, and cocktails.

Table reservations are limited and tickets are available for $500 per person. To book dinner reservations, email VIP@JWagnerGroup.com. A portion of the proceeds go toward supporting the nearly 1,000 students who participate in youth programs at the Muhammad Ali Center.

Maybe the most expensive five course menu in the world.

I think I'll pass, account that cost more when I was on expense account but those were few and far between! Darnell's a good chef but...

While it's for a good cause, this pop-up feels really tone deaf amidst the current economy and restaurant trends in fine dining. They must be banking on the prestige of being there to be the draw.

That also appears to be Derby weekend, right? Lots of money floating around town that week.
