Charlestown Pizza Company

by Kurt R. » Sat Feb 09, 2008 3:54 pm

My family and I had the sincere pleasure of dining at Charlestown Pizza Company last night. When we walked in we were greeted by the pleasant smell of hand made pizza. My kids noticed how "clean" the place was. Too often, especially in Charlestown cleanliness is not a priority, but it is at Charlestown Pizza Company.
Our server, who I believe is Shawn's wife, was veryknowledgeable about the menu and the extensive beer list. She suggested the Melbourne Bros. Strawberry beer, but I didn't think it would go well with pizza so I opted for the Franziskaner Weissbier. It was right on for pizza. We ordered an appetizer of bread bites, which is rolled baked pizza dough. Very good, not too yeasty or greasy dusted with parmesan and semolina and served with two sauces. The kids picked just nacho cheese and marinara, which were good, but I wanted the beer cheese! I obstained for the kids. Shawn delivered our appetizer and I introduced myself. He also brought out a sample of the Melbourne Strawberry beer to try. It was very good, didn't taste like a beer at all. I told my wife it scared me, the kids (9 and 11) would want to drink it. It was too sweet for pizza, but would make a great dessert beer or just sipping beer.
We got two pizzas, both of which were excellent! We all really enjoyed the crust of the pizza. The toppings were ample and we were very pleased.
My wife is from Charlestown so we knew several of the diners. Jerry Meredith, a good friend of Roger Baylor's and his wife Barb raved about the place, they eat there regularly. Barb was complimentary of my beer choice, she had the same. We had pizza on this trip, but Barb suggested the lasagna and the baked spaghetti. She went on to say, everything is great, she has never been disappointed.
People were sceptical of ANOTHER pizza place in Charlestown. In that tiny little town there is a Pizza Hut, Papa Johns and Domino's. There used to be both Steve's Pizza King and Perry's Pizza and pub. How many pizza places do you need?
Well the answer my friend is that Charlstown Pizza Company was needed and is a welcomed addition to the town. Friendly staff, friendly atmosphere and great food. It is a bit of a drive for me, but we will be back. Shawn is a real champ! He even sent me an email today to check on how everything was.
Foodies, do yourself a favor and drive across the river to try Shawn's place. You won't be dissappointed.

Shawn,

A quick thank you from the FOSSILS homebrewing group and your donation of 2 - $20 gift certificates. In the raffle, they each went to people who were not aware of your place, so you will be getting some new customers!
