Mom's and Pop's struggling?

by Bryan Shepherd » Fri Aug 05, 2022 5:30 pm

This poll (yes, I know polls are spot on or all over the place, but this survey is quite substantial in size, I believe) makes it sound like there is trouble on the horizon. Based on over 3500 small businesses, I assume at random, 45% of your mom and pop restaurants either missed or were late with July rent. Maybe it's nothing, but it certainly raises red flags......1st it is missed rents, 2nd it is missed payrolls, 3rd it is closing the doors for good........hope it's overblown

Yeah, it's scary out there. Piling inflation on top of a pandemic on an industry with tight margins, and add labor and supply chain issues? I'm just surprised that any local restaurants are surviving. Support 'em as strongly as we can, that's all I can advise right now. :(

Probably so, though at the same time, many restaurants are still packing them in. Possibly on a related note, credit card debt is up 13% since last year. Yikes! :o

I neat visual story in the NYT shows how, quite specifically, restaurants prices are rising on an item by item basis. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/08/09/dining/dinner-bill-restaurant-costs-inflation.html
