Something Up with Yangkee Noodle?

by Terri Beam » Tue Jul 12, 2022 10:09 pm

I stopped in at their (now only) location in Middletown last week, and there was a sign on the door. I can't remember the exact wording, but it was to the effect of "Yes, we're open. No, we don't know if we're moving or not. Do not ask the staff. We're tired of discussing it." YN isn't my favorite (or the best) Thai, but I like it when I'm in a hurry.

From that slightly aggravated tone, I can't tell if their lease is up? Did the rent increase? That's happening all over town (Hibachi Sushi Buffet on Bardstown Road just closed permanently last week, after having only reopened a few months ago). Piccadilly Plaza is now all but empty.

Are these landlords getting greedy and pricing their tenants out of business?

Very good questions! I wish I had some answers. :( I’m afraid we’re going to see closings in this economy, though.

There was something posted a few weeks ago about what was moving into that location. It may have been posted prematurely but it definitely said that something else was going into that space. It will be interesting to see what really happens.

Biscuit Belly is taking over the Yang Kee Noodle space — it received a building permit to make renovations about a month ago. I don't think it has announced when it will start that work. Here's the earlier post:

Apparently Yang Kee Noodle closed yesterday. The Facebook post says they're still trying to find a new location to move to.
