Post-pandemic downtown dining

by MarieP » Fri Jul 08, 2022 8:42 am

I'm looking for a place to get a reasonably priced, good sized dinner with my parents before going to the Van Gogh exhibit at the Convention Center downtown. My mom actually used to work there before the complete remodel and then the pandemic, but now the downtown dining scene has changed so much! We were thinking the Old Spaghetti Factory, but I wanted to know any other options. Is Addis still open? According to Google it is- I may call later to check. My mom ate there quite a bit while working, and the owner closed for awhile, but hoped to re-open. I know there's also Mayan Cafe, but I hear that their portions are small? And it’s not as close. Thanks!

Might depend on the night of the week. Not sure if you want walkable? But Sway at the Hyatt would be close. Safier or Sicilian pasta/pizza on 4th. Abyssinia or Huge Impact would be a bit further on 5th/Chestnut. Osaka on Market? Whiskey Row spots are only a couple of blocks away. BBC at 3rd and Main even closer.

Not super close, but the food is fantastic and the portions are quite large.

This is an appetizer, but it's almost a meal for 2.

Cuban Pork Tamal
$10.99
corn tamal stuffed with pork, topped with lechón asado, mojo onions, pico and cilantro aioli

The Cuban sandwich will feed 2.
Cubano
$14.99
the king of Cuban sandwiches; our lechon asado, hickory smoked ham, swiss cheese, pickles, mustard pressed in Cuban bread

La Bodeguita De Mima does sound excellent, but yes, a bit far. We’ve decided on Bluegrass Brewing! Thanks!
