I believe I’ve seen James mention it, but I don’t think anyone has written a report yet, so I thought I’d jump in. Chocolate & Nut Kingdom/Melt Munch is a place on Bardstown Road in Buechel that is a coffeeshop/creperie on one side, and a candy store on the other. The candy shop is a Wonka-esque riot of color and flavor, with offerings such as:
- Around 20 flavors of Turkish delight, in combinations like saffron pistachio, orange and hazelnut, rose petals and pomegranate, sesame honey, corn and blackberry, chocolate and coconut, chocolate and date, and many more. They insisted on giving me multiple free samples, which is the quickest way to win my endorsement
- Maybe 10 kinds of baklava and baklava-adjacent pastries
- A big case of around 40 kinds of colorful flavored nuts and snacks
- A massive assortment of packaged candies, none of which I recognized
- A whole bunch of spice bins
Then on the coffeeshop side, you’ve got:
- That dramatic Turkish coffee that’s made by placing metal pots into blisteringly hot sand, so the coffee instantly boils and froths over
- All sorts of other mixed coffee drinks and smoothies, some of which had lollipops in them
- Desserts with slightly baffling descriptions, like Lotus waffles, Sushi crepes, and Cotton Candy burritos
- Kumpir, which is apparently an overstuffed Turkish baked potato that had a million different topping options like olives, corn, and hot dogs that left me questioning how flexible my expectations for baked potatoes should be
- A gelato case I didn’t even glance at
- A bunch of other stuff I was frankly too overwhelmed to retain
For $18, we walked out with a pound of assorted Turkish delights (the kids preferred the chocolate and hazelnut ones, and the adults gravitated to the saffron and rose hips) that really delivered on the residual hype I retained from reading Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 3rd grade. The staff were very friendly, the place is fun, and I can’t think of any place in town like it. Can’t wait to go back and try the coffee and some other flavors of Turkish delight (and then maybe go next door to Jasmine’s for the gyro).
Here are some other pieces on the place, to give you an idea:
