is this legal?

by Mark R. » Tue Mar 08, 2022 1:35 pm

I saw this story on the news today and at least my thought is that while it's a great thing for the girl to be doing it doesn't meet the requirements and is probably illegal. Wouldn't she be required to be using a commercial kitchen for her baking? I've never been involved in something like this but from what I've read she would have to. What are everybody else's thoughts on this?

In 2018, Matt Bevin signed a bill making Kentucky the 48th state in the union (yes, we were late) to allow home baking enterprises. It's unclear whether he pardoned anyone who had been jailed for doing it before.

Any of you want to apply to become a home-based baker? It takes a little red tape and a $50 fee, but no worse than income taxes, I guess. Here's the two-page form:

Thanks for the information, I knew there were a lot of restrictions regarding commercial kitchens but I wasn't sure what the regulations were for bakeries.

Don't quote me, but I think you are limited to $60,000 of sales per year under the home based processor program.
