I agree, I really miss it and I think about the buffet they used to have quite often.

Ahhh, the Chick-Inn. Loved the chicken and the fish, great little side salad, bunch of choices of crackers on the table. And the Chicks chips!

I've got to add Chi-Chi's. Though I worked in the Corporate office, they did have a few items that were like no other...mainly the twice grilled barbeque burrito. (The queso wasn't bad either).

Basa

Loved everything about it: Food, Ambience, and my favorite cocktail, 'Bombay Heat' - a very spicy Gin Cocktail.

Damn, I forgot about this one. Those mussels!

I also loved the Bombay Heat. Ordered it every time we ate there. Enjoyed a couple great holiday parties at Basa.

Isn’t it funny how what we miss isn’t always tied directly to a culinary experience? How many of these restaurants that we miss are more about a mind set, a cultural attitude for the time? How we were exposed to something new? I miss Victoria Station where you could watch the carvers work, where many stood at their first salad bar. Or even back to the old Embassy Supper Club where they’d loan you a dinner jacket to dine there (back when that mattered!) . Funny to think how dining has evolved in such a short period of time.

One that we missed a lot is Winston's at Sullivan University. It used to be a nice relaxing place to eat a meal, especially brunch, and it was nice watching the students working in there! They were supposed to reopen but it never has.

We also miss the Anchorage Café which was in the little building next to the Village Anchor (which we do not like). It was replaced by Picnic but that then closed and the building have been sitting vacant for quite a while. It was another small restaurant with a very relaxed atmosphere.

I love this thread! I realized that I miss certain dishes more than the restaurants themselves, and I spend a great deal of effort trying to recreate them. Beef fried rice from Hoe Kow, paella from De La Torres, crawfish etoufee from Joe's OK Bayou... I'm sure there are more.

More recently closed, I do miss Artesano. Loved their food and cocktails.

Reading on these posts.... I really miss so many of those....

Mine... Mazzoni's. Those rolled oysters, ahhhhh...

Rib Tavern on Bardstown Rd.

And so many more... Do keep them coming

Like others, I sure miss Brasserie Dietrich's. The ambiance of that old theatre was so cool. A more recent loss would be Couvillion. Their gumbo was so good. Actually, everything was SO good. A third place that I really, truly miss is Palermo Viejo. Their parillada with sweetbreads and garlic fries...good grief that was heaven. Oh, I can't forget the banana ice cream. Finally, here's a long-forgotten little gem that was a lunchtime staple for me and my friends: Cafe Kilamanjaro. Man, I miss what they called jerk chicken (actually stewed chicken) with the gravy poured over the rice and peas with a side of their spinach stew. To this day that may be my favorite go-to lunch in town.

Lots of good ones here. I'll add Zephyr Cove. I think it lost something when it moved downtown from Frankfort Avenue to the Kentucky Center and rebranded as Kentucky Cove, but I loved Zephyr Cove in its original format on Frankfort.

I think you've got it exactly right, Brad ... and then Len and Nancy moved over and opened L&N Wine Bar. Good times. And good to see you here!
