I don't think they were in Louisville, but there was a G. D. Ritzy's in Bowling Green. It wasn't officially on the menu, but my mother would order a "triple chocolate" shake, which they would make with chocolate ice cream, chocolate milk, and chocolate syrup. I remember it being good, but I was definitely too young to appreciate such decadence at the time. That location closed in the early 2000s to become a Starbucks. :( But it appears there are still Ritzy's restaurants in Owensboro, Evansville, and Columbus, OH.

Ferd Grisanti's. Just relaxed (but still very nice) old school Italian. I only got to go a couple of times after moving here. Then they shut down.

Ferd's really was a nice comfy place, Christina. I think just about everyone is sorry they closed. :(

Out Shelbyville Rd beyond Middletown was a nice Italian restaurant in a mansion (or huge house). The Italian owner was "famous" for "helping" all female guess with their coats on entering or leaving, managing to fondle their rear end while assisting. Back in the day (35 years ago?) many thought this was 'very Continental,' while today, he'd be brought up on charges...

Not trying to get into women's rights issues or discussion, just trying to remember the restaurant name, and the discussion of Ferd's brought this place to mind. Anyone remember a place like that?

Yup. Wish I could recall the name of it. The mansion also housed an Asian restaurant for awhile. I have no idea what that place is used for these days (as he delicately avoids the coat stories).

So, I actually drove to Evansville a couple weekends ago to try the G. D. Ritzy's there. My memory was a little off--their signature shake is actually double chocolate and not triple chocolate, but it was really good, nonetheless. Reminded me a bit of a Wendy's Frosty in shake form. I also had a bacon cheeseburger, which was excellent. I'd place it a notch above Culver's or Freddy's. I remember the onion rings being very good when I was a kid, but I try to be a little calorie conscious now, so maybe next time I will skip the shake and try the onion rings, instead--I don't think I can do all three, at once!
