Big Bad Breakfast coming to old Lynn’s site

by Rich S » Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:54 am

The old Lynn’s Paradise Cafe/Martin’s Bar-B-Que building at 984 Barret Ave. is being taken over by a restaurant called Big Bad Breakfast. It’s a small chain that calls itself “the brainchild of James Beard award-winning chef John Currence,” who I’m not familiar with. There are eight locations now, all in the Southeast, with a handful more planned. They apparently are open only for breakfast and lunch, like First Watch. From the website:

Enjoy Big Bad Breakfast staples such as custom-created meats, fresh biscuits and preserves, locally roasted coffee and some of the best cocktails you’ll find anywhere. We wear our “Big Bad” name as a badge of honor and take special pride in serving all your Southern favorites with the creativity and technique that only a skilled, world-renowned chef can bring to the table.

I’m glad that building will be getting a new tenant. I’m curious to see how this type of restaurant will fare in that area. It seems a bit similar to Maple Street Biscuit Company, which is just a few blocks away.

I'm glad someone is trying that site again. However, I'd prefer a place that boasts a small good breakfast over a big bad breakfast! It just doesn't ring well with me.

Sounds good but I really love breakfast anyway. I wish some of these breakfast and lunch only places would be open for dinner at least a couple of days a week. I know many people love breakfast for dinner on occasion!

Big Bad Breakfast opens tomorrow (Feb. 8th). I hope it does well and gives a boost to that area.

From today’s Business First story:

Steve Ritchie, founder and CEO of Louisville-based Endeavor Restaurant Group, … said the menu at the Louisville location of Big Bad Breakfast will be much like the other locations, but it will incorporate local and regional ingredients from Kentucky vendors like Sunergos Coffee and Weisenberger Mill. …
The locally inspired breakfast items include a specially curated Big Bad Hot Brown made with black pepper buttermilk biscuits, white cheddar mornay, roasted turkey, tomatoes and house-cured tabasco brown sugar bacon.

Well, that took a while! Looking forward to giving it a try, though!

I’m also leery of the “big” notion, but I may give it a try in a few weeks when I have a late start to work. They have Louisville-specific info on their site, including those ingredients, hours, and menu.

Actually looking at their menu it doesn't look as interesting as the menus from Wild Eggs or 1st Watch. It has fewer items and less variety.

And neither of those places even comes close to Con Huevos.

I certainly agree, I forgot to mention that as well as several other local places. I just wanted to point out that it certainly wasn't going to be anything special compared to what we already have!

Disagree. I thought the menu looked really good. Last visit (yesterday) to Wild Eggs was uninspiring. Also, BBB fills a need in the neighborhood. YMMV.

Other than a couple of the items in the Specialties area they have nothing other menu that's unique in any way and actually some of the items in that area are Louisville specific and not really breakfast items. I do agree about the location however, I still miss Lynn's and don't think this is a good substitute although definitely a better option than Martin's was.
