Finally on my vacation, have a question

by BevP » Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:18 pm

Ok on my long awaited California costal vacation ,best seafood so far was a crab salad sandwich at Spud Point at Bodega Bay and shared my son's clam chowder. We are now at a little village called Solvang , pride themselves in being the the Dutch capital of California . For lunch I had a Schnitzel with German potato salad , Matt had Currywurst which leads to my question. Is there anywhere near home you can purchase a prepared currywurst or even buy some to make at home? He let me have a bit and we both loved it. Tonight we are heading to Buellton less than 10 miles away for the Anderson's Pea Soup, not sure if I even like Pea soup but I hear the business is for sale and better try it while I can. Will head to San Diego, then LA with the last stop being San Francisco the 8th-11th home late on the 11th Thanks y'all

Hi, Bev! I'm glad you're enjoying your travels! I always thought Solvang was Danish, but Danish or Dutch, enjoy!

I can't think of anyplace around Louisville that has currywurst, but one place that might do it is Oskar's ... they're Scandinavian, and that might be close enough.

Monnik Beer (Germantown and New Albany) sometimes has Currywurst, sometimes curry fries, and almost always curried ketchup.

Germany's #1 Food Louisville food truck had it, but it looks like they are selling their truck. Maybe the new owner will carry the currywurst on.

Bev, from a fellow currywurst lover, here are some thoughts:

(1.) A place called "The Hall on Washington" is kind of a beer hall with a German menu. Thier website's down and they may be closed, but worth a shot? Their "Grubhub" menu shows a "currywurst platter"
https://www.grubhub.com/restaurant/the- ... le/1788367

(2.) Pints and Union / New Albany has been known to feature Currywurst as an appetizer, but their menu can be a "moving target", so better to check whether they're actually doing Currywurst that night, before driving over there.
https://www.pintsandunion.com/
BTW, they're planning to open a new German place - The Common Haus - in J'ville this fall. Hard to think that they won't have Currywurst!
https://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/ ... -haus.html

(3.) Eiderdown/Germantown used to feature currywurst as a regular starter, but I dont think they're open to teh public anymore?

BTW, all of the above offer/offered "Berlin-style" currywurst - - the wurst cut up in to little slices with curry ketchup on top. This is not Bayerische-style, which is one big honkin' sausage, still in one piece with small slits cut on to the top. MUCH tastier, to my way of thinking!

(4.) and if you're up for the challange, go online and order from these folks and do your own!

First, Robin yes the town is Danish not Dutch, staying in "The Royal Copenhagen Inn" should have tipped me off. Also, Thank you all for the suggestions. We made it thru LA traffic to San Diego to stay 2 nights to go back to LA for 3. Now I want some Mexican street food, Matt wants Korean go figure

They have plans to reopen The Hall after getting SideBar opened last month.
