Need help - high end Japanese/sushi

by JustinHammond » Tue May 04, 2021 6:40 pm

Looking for a fine dining Japanese/sushi restaurant in the surrounding area. Willing to drive 1.5 hours. Looking for innovative dishes as well as traditional sushi. Must have unagi, uni, and robata grill options. Thanks.

Not sure if Hiko-a-mon has the robata options, but the rest is covered very well! And, I believe Hiko is the only Japanese certified master sushi chef within a couple of hundred miles of here.

I believe that if you talk to them in advance (especially in person) you can get almost anything you're after, not just what's on the menu, but with the Covid restrictions and difficulties in obtaining ingredients may not be possible at the moment.

Really like Hiko, but they don’t have robata options and I’ve never seen uni on the menu.

Looking for a spot like this.

Dragon King's Daughter New Albany meets most of your criteria (upscale, unagi, and robata grill). I don't see uni on the menu, however.

I've had uni there, albeit not recently. (1) It was a "market priced" option, so the on-line menu may not show it; (2) Due to the pandemic it may be too hard to get; and/or (3) After carrying it Louisville people just didn't order it, so it wasn't worth having. Any or all may be true!

I'd suggest calling before you go in and asking them! At least you'll know what the story is . . .

(And I've not seen a true robata grill outside of Chicago/New York/California, tho admittedly I haven't been everywhere! . . . Have not been to Dragon King's Daughter in years now)

Love DKD. Last time I was there the robata was not in operation. I assumed covid, but didn't ask.

Ahh. Yeah, my last visit was pre-Covid so maybe they have stopped using it. I hope it's temporary. The dishes they cooked on it were great and I know they were super excited to put it in.
