Italian sausage

by Richard S. » Fri Dec 11, 2020 12:07 am

Is there anywhere in town where one can purchase New Jersey-style Italian rope sausage? I've got a hankering. Kingsley's has Italian links, but I'm not really a fan.

I can't testify to the rope sausage, but Lotsa Pasta's Italian sausage is legit, although they sell it as individual links.

We have also been on this quest! We are from NY (Queens & LI) and have been searching for anyone who has cheese and parsley rings like we used to get at Ragtime or A&S Pork Store back home. We do have a place we order from when we get really desperate, but we would love to find a local who makes this.

Fresh Thyme was the only place we were able to ever find any. The sausage guy there was AMAZING!

We did go with the Lotsa Pasta version. It was pretty good, although I do plan to stop by GFS and see what they have. My biggest complaint about the Italian sausage we get these days is that it's ground much more fine than what I remember from my 1960s childhood in New Jersey. The closest thing to what I recall as far as consistency is Johnsonville brats.

That looks like the real deal, although too rich for my pocketbook. When things settle down pandemic-wise I'll have to make a trip to visit family in New Jersey and stock up.

You all have me curious so I just ordered from this place in Brooklyn. They allow you to order in smaller quantities than Esposito.
