Uptown Cafe closing...

by Mike L » Tue Nov 17, 2020 5:31 pm

They just posted it on their Facebook page, closing Nov. 28 after 35 years. Sad times.

I am so sorry to hear this.

Becky and I had our first real date there in 1994. Chef Matt Weber is our neighbor.

This one is the first Covid closure to hit me hard. So many memories at the Uptown. So many great meals. I'll miss the relaxing experience of sitting in front of one of the windows in the main dining room and people watching. The 2 kinds of bread. The great desserts. I really enjoyed their collection of 19th century art posters as well. Just a huge loss to the city.

Mike, yes, all of the above. Now I feel bad that I hadn't been there in quite a while. And worried what the long winter is going to be like.

Same for me Mike L. It was probably our most visited local restaurant over the years - just did curbside last Friday. I think I have the menu memorized. Great staff, too, and wishing them the best. Very sad news. Thanks for the FB link, Robin.

Whoa, I'm not happy about this at all. Damn. I will miss their schnitzel big time. Their curbside service has been great.

We were regulars for decades. Huge loss.

I’ve known Kelly for many years. Really sad for them and the city but I’m afraid this is just the beginning of the closings. This winter with COVID will be very tough for many places to survive unless Mitch can agree to a massive Govt help.

Does anyone remember when Uptown used to have that dessert table in the middle of the main dining room? It was so funny... You'd sit there with dessert staring at you all evening, until you mentally broke down and had to order something. So fun!

I sure remember it. Always a tough choice between the Empress Carlotta and the Gateau Ganache for us.

Lots of great memories....loved sitting at a table by the window. Spent many evenings at the bar back when we lived in the Highlands.
