Stratto's Beer Dinner, February 7th

by Todd Antz » Mon Feb 04, 2008 5:01 pm

From Roger Baylor's blog, here is an announcement about a beer dinner they are doing this Thursday. We have a wine tasting the same night, so feel free to stop in The Keg, and then head down the street for one of the best bargains I've seen in a beer dinner:

Trevor, Tish and I have been working on this one for a while. The idea is to pair cold-weather, winter-themed beers with a hearty menu conceived by Jerome Pope, Stratto’s chef.

Yesterday’s advertisement in the Tribune featured my name in a ridiculously oversized font (am I obliged to provide comic patter, soft shoe and perhaps karaoke to justify the billing and my comp?), but more importantly, it quoted a price for all this of only $20 per person!

Folks, that’s a steal. Call Stratto's for reservations at (812) 945-3496. The restaurant is located at 318 W. Lewis & Clark Parkway, Clarksville.

I’m off to practice my warbling … I think some Bobby Darin would slay them.

Meanwhile, here’s the menu and pairings.

The price for this event is very, very fair.

I rehearsed tonight. Should be ready for the main stage on Thursday.

The Beer Dinner was a wonderful success, thank you to all who participated!

And to Chef Tony - I wasn't that upset that the mighty Patriots fell...we will be right back in the mix come next year (The line in Vegas is already 2-1 odds on the Pats, haha! )

Oh and Tony UNC looked great the other night, GO DUKE!!! HAHA.
-Always looking for the perfect spot for Football, Cold Beer and Great Food!

I stopped in to Strattos after my wine tasting, just in time for the dessert course. Everything looked great, and I heard nothing but praise for the food and the beer choices.

Congratulations!

Gina and I attended our first beer dinner last night. We were both impressed with the pairings.

The Colonial style Old Lightning Rod and Hunters stew were our favorite. Chef Jerome's smoked chunks of beef in the stew really played well with the molasses influence of Old Lightning Rod.

Chef Jerome's greens were the first greens I ever really truly enjoyed.

Roger did a fine job describing each beer's character and how it was intended relate to the dish it accompanied.

My personal beer discovery of the evening was Bell's Hopslam. I've always recoiled at bitter beer. Hopslam was bitter but a semi-sweet citrus flavor balanced it off creating a very interesting little skirmish around my taste buds. Paired with perfectly seared scallops, I will return. Dang, I kinda feel like MacArthur.

Hats off to Stratto's crew who handled a full house with out a hitch.

Beer and food pairing? Very effective!
