Had my second wonderful meal from Gourmet Provisions last night. For our first meal I tried that night's special which was a four cheese baci pillow pasta with lots of shrimp & lobster claw with some veggies in a garlic white wine sauce. Wow, that dish bowled me over. It wasn't cheap, but neither were the ingredients, so I found it a good value. It was $26 for a large portion that fed me for 2 meals, and it truly was gourmet. Hubby tried the lobster roll which contained a generous portion of lobster salad. As previously mentioned, it does not come in a traditional top split hot dog bun, but a large New Orleans style crusty roll. This can be misleading because the roll doesn't appear full and overflowing as expected in the traditional bun, but trust me, there is a ton of lobster salad in there, and it is delicious! It comes with a side, and Rob opted for fresh fruit. Would order this again.
Last night, I tried a bowl of one of the special soups - Maryland Crab Soup. I was not familiar with this soup, but it sounded fantastic. Matt's mom is apparently from Baltimore, so it seems his MD dishes (including the crab cakes) are legit. Those might be next in my list. The soup is essentially a seafood broth vegetable soup with crab claw meat and Old Bay seasoning. The soup was delicate and quite flavorful.
(btw - hubby had the rest of the rib roast I made for him the other night, so I was the only one who ordered from GP last night)
Bottom line is I love these people, I love their passion, and I truly want them to succeed. It seems they're still getting their groove as far as how they're going to work specials, etc, but this is a very special place with some of Louisville's finest chefs filling plates (er, to-go boxes) with love.
