Duck Donuts

by Rich S » Sat Aug 08, 2020 2:33 pm

I would have thought Louisville already had enough places to buy doughnuts, but it looks like the Duck Donuts chain is coming to Shelbyville Road Plaza. It will be at the front of the shopping center, near Feeders Supply. Doughnuts are made to order, with whatever toppings you want, including peanuts and bacon (no duck, though; the chain is named for Duck, N.C., on the Outer Banks, where it started).

Not enough places to buy really good donuts so I, for one, am thrilled!

Ehh...Duck Donuts is ok. It's less a full-service donut bakery and more of a donut topping shop. They make one style of cake donut, and then you choose what toppings/coatings you want to put on it. I mean, all donuts are good, but it's not where you go if you want the variety available at Clifton/Nords/Plehns/etc.

Good to know, Jeff, thanks!

I'd add King Donuts in Lyndon to your good-donuts list, by the way. It's another Cambodian family donut shop very similar to Clifton.

I love love love King Donuts! But, for me, if there’s no yeast it’s not a donut. Not a fan of cake donuts.

Here, here! Never understood the concept of the cake donut. It's just wrong. Light, warm, airy, yeasty, with a gentle glaze...that's a donut, or is that doughnut?

Same! Gotta be yeast donuts. If you want cake, get a cupcake.

Oh, they're 100% on my list. Our family did a donut taste-off last year comparing Clifton, King, Plehn's, Nord's, Heitzman's, Bussman's (RIP), and North Lime in four different categories of donuts. It was a lot of fun, though I may have contracted diabetes on the spot!

Are yeast donuts what Krispy Kreme sells? I can't eat them- it's like cotton candy. Super sweet, no substance, and just dissolves on your tongue. I need more substance. I always loved Nords bacon maple donuts.
