Best quality cheap eats?

by Robin Garr » Wed Aug 05, 2020 10:48 am

I randomly posted this question on Facebook and got lots of good advice, but I'd like to have the expert opinions of the foodies here: Tell me about the Louisville restaurants you love for value: Good food at great prices! In this time of social distancing and economic stress, where can we still dine well for a low-end price?

Here's the FB thread if you'd like to compare notes. It's public right now.

Simple: Safier's chicken or beef shawarma sandwiches. Prove me wrong.
Bear in mind, I'd love to be proven wrong.
ETA: Go on a Saturday and you can score a fantastic lamb shank meal for a steal. A couple of years ago, that set me back $13; not sure what they are charging now.

Burger Girl Diner - I love their Swiss cheese omelet and hash browns.

Happy hour at Chik'n & Mi is a steal.

Whoa, that IS cheap! I wonder if they offer the happy hour menu for takeout, though?

I don't think so, but they do offer it on the patio.

Roosters: on Monday or Tuesday (it changes) my wife and I can get 5 huge fried chicken wings (we get sauce on the side) and a decent chicken salad or sandwich, fries, a beer, and a Coke for under $20 including tax and a 30% tip!

On other days wings are more expensive, so the price rises closer to $20 for two.

The food is good, and as a bonus the servers are universally good/nice/pleasant/happy and they're the only place I know of that can make fried breaded food without salt (on request) for those on low salt diets for medical reasons.

It is a small regional chain, but it defines quality cheap eats!

Pre-covid, Rafferty's was a good place to get a good burger and fries... It seems like we'd get in and out for under $25 after tip.

Also, it seems like Irish Rover had most items on their menu at under $10 last time I was there.
