Love in the time of Covid

Eleven businesses out of eighty-six visited by Louisville Metro Health to check for Covid compliance. Pretty good, yet the list includes some heavy hitters out of compliance. (Apologies to Gabriel Garcia Marquez)

You're right about the heavy hitters, Ed. A couple of those made me suck in my breath.

Is that info tied into letter grade ratings yet? I've seen several B's in some places that I like recently, makes me a bit nervous.

This is why I reacted the way I did on an earlier thread regarding a server not wearing a mask. If a server, who is visible to everyone, is not wearing a mask, what's going on in the kitchen?

I love Cuban food and was looking forward to carryout/curbside from Bodeguita de Mima, but that is now never going to happen.

I find this information so useful. Some folks honestly just do not care. I do. I knew, when they posted pictures of the entire staff at Bodeguita de Mima lined up, ready to greet you, with not a mask on anyone, all bunched together like sardines in a can, COVID and keeping us safe wasn't going to be a priority.

I can't imagine how the folks at Kentucky Kingdom can enforce social distancing.

I went there last Tuesday and Thursday with my youngest son. Tuesday we just walked around to get a feel for the place. He got on a few rides. Thursday we got into the water on one of the lazy rivers and he did a few rides.

I wasn't there over the 4th July holiday which was likely more crowded. But when I was there it felt fine to me. The rides were spaced properly in my view and the workers all wore masks. Most people weren't wearing masks walking around but there are 60+ acres---pretty easy to stay away from people.

I would say the only time there was any concern for me was waiting in line when some people tend to not distance as well as I would have liked (hence, keep your mask handy). We'll be back.

Once again, for those who don't feel comfortable in such a setting---fine. Don't go. But unless they somehow jam pack the place, which likely won't happen anyway, there is beaucoup space and no real need to get near anyone if one selects carefully their activities.

When it's not being able to make customers do social distance, that's one thing (looking at you FABD), but when it's the staff not wearing masks? That's problematic. I get needing to take down the mask to be understood, because as someone who ruined my hearing with punk rock, I have a lot of trouble understanding someone if I can't see their lips move, but Baxter's 942 is routinely on the food inspector list for citations so I'm not surprised to see them not bothering with COVID restrictions. If you can't keep the rats out, masks are the least of your concern.

If I can’t be sure they’d bother with a mask how can I be sure they’d bother washing their hands, their produce, washing trays or dishes? I’ll pass.

I wish it impacted businesses like this, but I drove by this weekend, non-peak time, and the line was out the door. Not surprisingly, little distancing in the line.
