WLKY-32 wrote:Louisville helping restaurants expand outdoor seating to sidewalks, parking lotsKentucky's plan for reopening the economy has restaurants slated to reopen May 22.
Restaurants will be able to open with limited capacity -- 33% -- as well as outdoor seating.
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer says the city will help expand that outdoor seating by changing some rules.
This will include waiving application fees for outdoor seating and changing regulations to help expand seating into private property, like parking lots.
"Effective immediately, Public Works will temporarily suspend application fees for restaurants seeking an encroachment permit for outdoor furniture to add or expand their outdoor seating on public property, including sidewalks," a news release reads.
However, restaurants will still need to apply for a permit.
Fischer also said Louisville Metro is working with council to pass an emergency ordinance next week to temporarily suspend certain planning and zoning requirements.
Those would allow restaurants to setup outdoor seating on private property or in a parking lot without additional parking, landscaping or other requirements normally required. It would also help some serve liquor outdoors if they already have a permit for inside.
