Meh. Just right off the top, I'd go to Stevens & Stevens for great sandwiches, or to Butchertown Grocery Bakery (just reviewed today).

I certainly would have to agree that the Chicken Salad at the Cheddar Box is fantastic. There are couple other places in town that at least in my opinion make a better Hot Brown then the brown does but because they are slightly different they may not be authentic in that regard. I certainly agree that Stevens & Stevens has great sandwiches.

While Stevens & Stevens is good, it cannot compare to the NYC deli's (a few of which are on the list), the LA deli on the list, or other sandwiches. This proports to list the 99 best sandwiches in the country, and Louisville has the same number that made the list as does Chicago! (They have a Filipino sandwich, a Mexican, and a Chicago Italian Beef)

It's a free-lance write up, and lists some of what we're known for . . . I'm happy we got the same number as Chicago!

i dont like to be a hater in regard to things other people enjoy, and I know that Stevens & Stevens is very popular, and therefore Im likely the crazy one, but I find it to be just...ok. Not bad at all, but what are they really doing? Throwing some boar's head on some bread they purchased?

Like I said, maybe it's just me. But I have long bemoaned the lack of a good sandwich joint in Louisville. It seems like an easy hit, and there really isn't much competition. I've eaten plenty of good sandwiches, but I think a modernish place focused on sandwiches and craft beer would be a huge success.

Ive heard good things about Another Place, and need to try them soon.

For what it's worth, Butchertown Grocery Bakery is making decent sandwiches - most with non-traditional chef-driven fillings - on quality artisanal bread that they make in house.

Wiltshire Pantry has my favorite sandwiches in town. For a while they had a rosemary porchetta mushroom ciabatta sandwich that was fantastic.

Their Muffuletta is really good.

I would add the Cubano at Valu Market on South Third.

For me, the best sandwich in town is found at Blue Dog Bakery - Artichoke Hearts, Boursin, Eggplant, Red Bell Pepper, Tapenade, Mozzarella, Mayo on freshly-baked Blue Dog bread.

A sage poet (Warren Zevon) once said, when asked about his life's mantra: "Enjoy every sandwich."
Here's an underrated/unexpected suggestion: Corner Cafe. Diversity and quality. They have a broad sandwich menu for lunch, and they execute everything with aplomb. Their Italian sausage sandwich has long been my go-to, but I recently tried their blackened chicken sandwich and I was blown away. I've grown weary of lightly-seasoned proteins with a couple of sear marks being passed off as "blackened," but this one truly fits the bill. Highly seasoned and completely blackened, accented with a self-applied jalapeno jelly...man, that thing works. Lots of other options as well. Don't sleep on this place, and if you are under 60 (70?) it will make you feel young because you'll be the youngest person in the joint.

I haven't been there in years, but when I used to work on Frankfort Avenue, Crave was a favorite for sandwiches.
