Friday benefit aids Lava House survivors

by Robin Garr » Thu Jan 31, 2008 11:52 am

<img align="right" src="http://www.louisvillehotbytes.com/lava.gif" alt="Lava House">A devastating fire destroyed Louisville's Lava House (Louisville Assembly of Vanguard Art) Saturday night, taking the lives of resident Bill Christie and one of the house's dogs.

Friends of Lava House are organizing benefits to help the three surviving residents and tenant studio artists. A major event is planned on Friday, Feb. 1, at 6 p.m., at the Barret Bar, 1012 Barret Ave. Participants are asked to offer a donation of at least $5 at the door.

Donations and 100 percent of the sales of selected domestic and import beers will go directly to help out. The Shlafly Beer Co. has graciously stepped up and donated beer for this event. There'll be a pool tournament $10 buy-in with prizes for the winner, and a fund-raising silent auction will feature bidding on many donated items ...

Thank you Robin for working diligently to get this up as soon as you did, especially since you didn't receive it until this morning. :) You have proven time and time again to be an asset to the Louisville community and to local businesses.

Thank you to all of the donors that have stepped up to donate to this event. After we met on Sunday evening to initially plan this, we have worked night and day to pull this all together. We found all of these donors to be more than willing to help in any capacity.

We have received some beautiful pieces of art from Glassworks for our silent auction. They are also going to match everything we make that evening. I encourage anyone to come up on Friday starting at 6:00 to help continue to make this a success. VIP thunder tickets, artwork, massages, restaurant certificates, you name it there is something for everyone. A sincere thank you to the Louisville community, Sincerely Brian Clark

Oh god. I just visited the website and viewed the very serious photos and video. That was one furious blaze. I won't be able to attend, but I would if I could and smack the pants off some (stressing only some) in a pool tourney. That's very sad news about the Lava House.

*******************For all of the wine lovers*********************

In the name of LouisvilleHotBytes, Robin has graciously donated a bottle from his personal collection. This bottle has an estimated value of $500-600. This bottle will be in the silent auction and will have a starting bid of only $100!!!! For anyone looking to add a great bottle to their collection in the name of charity, please come up and bid on this item. Thanks to Robin for the gracious donation. Brian Clark

Paul Jaboulet Ainé 1990 Hermitage La Chapelle

It is considered one of the top wines of the Northern Rhone Valley in France, 100 percent Syrah, and so ageworthy that even this 18-year-old bottle is considered young, although it should be ready to open and enjoy, preferably with a red-meat meal like rare roast beef or an excellent steak
