APNA Cafe (Indian food)

by Rich S » Mon Sep 30, 2019 2:00 pm

This small place is supposed to open soon — possibly this weekend — at 11322 Maple Brook Drive; that’s in the shopping center across Chamberlain Lane from Walmart, out near the Ford truck plant. It’s an offshoot of the APNA Bazaar Indian grocery next door, which already serves some carry-out food; I tried the samosas, which were pretty good. The grocery store website doesn’t have any information about the cafe yet, but I hope that will change.

(I went to the grocery a couple years ago and wasn’t impressed, but it’s apparently under new management now and is much better — although I still prefer Patel’s.)

Don't Forget your passport! That's not only outside of the Waterson, it's also outside of the Snyder!

Passport? We may be talking visa and airfare in this case!

Hopefully open at the lunch hour - a good location for us far-east-enders.

I’ve shopped at the grocery. Bought 3 or 4 jars of condiments the last time I was there only to get them home and notice they were all expired, by months.

I did the same . . . got some tamarind, and it was 8 months off code date (but didn't notice until I got home)

On the one hand, that betrays a slack attitude for sure. On the other, most condiments sealed in jars will last for years. I wouldn't worry too much about the sell-by date on things like tamarind, soy, hot sauces, etc.

I bought several jars of lime pickle. All varieties were expired. It made me wonder, “is nothing selling in the store? And if not, how can they stay in business?”
I haven’t returned. I doubt that I will.
