Ha! There's nothing much better in food writing than one of Pete's special reviews ...

OMG, I needed that laugh.

[U]p front, next to the desk where the hosts have mastered the art of checking reservations without making eye contact, is a cafe-slash-wine bar. A glass case there serves as a temporary prison for aging pastries and tragic snacks.

Hilarious. Lots of quotable quotes in that piece. There’s also a link to make a reservation, upon which the NYT would earn an “affiliate commission”. Don’t think so.

My favorite: “Atmosphere: Cafe in the front, bar in the middle, dining in the back. Desperation all around. Servers often seem to be hiding panic; you want to ask them to blink twice if they’re being held against their will.”

That's 1 of the "best" restaurant reviews I think I've ever read.It had me laughing continuously and made my wife under what I was doing. Almost makes you want to go to it to see if it's really as bad as the review sounds like it is.
